Today, an old lady stumbled out in front of a bicycle that was speeding along.

I was working a part-time job handing out tissues, and the moment I noticed it and thought, 'That's dangerous!', the guy on the bike slammed on his brakes and shouted, 'Watch out, you old hag!'

It was certainly entirely the old lady's carelessness, but I couldn't help but think he didn't have to be so harsh... and I instinctively tried to step in between them.

But, just as I started to say, 'Wait a minute... the guy said,

If you die, your grandkids and your old man are going to be sad, you know!!'

The people around, including me, were left stunned by those completely unexpected words.

Then, to the old lady who was apologizing, the guy added,

'Shut up, just give me your bags! I'll put them in the basket, so hand them over!
And anyway, are you hurt, you old hag?! Huh!?'

It was a remark where you couldn't tell if he was threatening her or looking out for her.

In the end, the guy accompanied the old lady and headed back the way they came.

The old lady's bags were in the basket.

I was secretly watching them go while handing out tissues, and it looked like the old lady and the guy were talking about various things, and the old lady was smiling too.

When the guy came back on his bike about 20 minutes later, I handed him a tissue and said, 'You're very kind,' to which he replied, sounding a bit angry, 'I'm not being kind at all!'

But I clearly heard him mutter under his breath afterward, 'Taking care of old ladies and old men isn't about being kind, it's just the normal thing to do.'

What's more, his face was a little red.

I almost fell for him for real.
