The Masterpiece ADV 'Erinyes' Revived by Fan Enthusiasm
Introduction
Hello everyone.
The game I would like to introduce today is the miraculous revival of a masterpiece free ADV from the Heisei era, 'Erinyes'.

This game, Erinyes, has a level of polish that you wouldn't expect from a free game created in the mid-Heisei era...
It was such a shock that it got me, a die-hard RPG fan at the time, hooked on ADVs and visual novels.
However, this game carried the burden of requiring a Flash player, which has already reached its end of service (´・ω・`).
I personally kept the game files long after the official site, Pleiades Company, shut down, but I had no environment to play it in, so I gave up on writing an article about it.
But!
A passionate fan actually contacted the creator and brought Erinyes back to life in this Reiwa era!!
I read the revival article, and it seems they went through more trouble than I can imagine compared to embedded Flash games like Home Run Derby...
I cannot thank Tsukasa-sama enough for their efforts in making this revival possible.
The revival article itself is here ↓ (You can also download the game here)
Oh, by the way, for those who are interested in playing it, there are two things to note!
First, Google Chrome is required to play. Please be aware of this if you primarily use other browsers.
Next, perhaps because it's an old game, some of the BGM and SE are at an explosive volume.
The sound effects are especially crazy; my family got mad at me over the machine gun sounds and the siren (1 loss).
So, I recommend playing with the volume set quite low.
The BGM is wonderful, so I'd be happy if you didn't mute it completely!
What kind of game is it?
The protagonist, Hayato-kun, is an ordinary high school boy.
While out night fishing with a bad friend, he spots a suspicious ship and loses consciousness there.
When he wakes up, he finds himself in an unfamiliar prison-like place, and there he remembers.
The recent string of kidnapping incidents—he has been caught up in one of them---
...And so, the story of Erinyes begins.
Hayato-kun sets out to escape, and along the way, he meets several collaborators.

First is Minami-san, an older female reporter who was also kidnapped. Minami.
She is one of the main heroines, and in Chapter 1, you will work with her to escape from the prison.

Next is Blood, a special forces member dispatched by the UN to solve the kidnapping case. Blood. He has a menacing name, but he is a capable and helpful ally.

And then there is Nasa, a silver-haired girl who somehow escaped from the kidnapping organization. Nasa.
She is on the cover of this game and plays an important role in the main story as well.

With these four as the main characters, you will explore the deserted island, aim to escape, and search for the truth hidden behind the kidnapping incidents.
It uses a multi-ending system, and there are quite a few bad or bitter endings, such as escaping while the mystery remains a mystery, or only some people escaping...
But it really 'hits' me that I'm now older than all the main characters... Ugh (death).
The charm and things I like about this game
First, it is simply well-made and fun as an ADV.
You use items you've picked up to overcome desperate situations, and I'm impressed by the number of scenarios and the structure, as there are often multiple ways to get through them.
For example, in Chapter 1, Hayato-kun, who is locked in a cell, works with Minami-san, who is also captured, to escape from the prison.

Talk to Minami-san, receive the string she was holding through the pipe, and use it to escape from the cell.

Up to this point, the path is the same, but there are two ways to get past the guard when he arrives later.
First, there is the method of hiding in another room nearby, ambushing the guard from behind, and locking him in the room.
No special items or operations are required, and I feel like this is the route most people take on their first playthrough. I remember this was my route on my first playthrough as well.

You can escape using this method, but there is another way.
That isto search the warehouse before the guard arrives and use the items you find there to knock the guard unconsciousmethod.

With this route,Hayato-kun remains unharmed and you can also obtain a handgun.
Is this the reward for it being harder to notice?
Once you get used to it, you tend to choose this one, butactually, there are endings that can only be reached via the locking-in routeand that is what makes it so profound.
Also, each character reacts in detail or gives hints depending on the items you have equipped, and I really love the attention to detail here.
I believe those who enjoyed presenting evidence and seeing the opponent's reaction in the Ace Attorney 1-3 era will understand this feeling.

And this item, you can give it to allies or equip and use it yourself, but...
There are other uses for it too. These other uses are... I was really impressed at the time.
It was a surprise on the level of when I first learned the conditions for obtaining Shedinja in Pokémon.
...Aren't my analogies getting too old-man-like lately? (´・ω・`)
Well, I am an old man, sadly.
Andthe way the heaviness and sense of loneliness seep into the scenario and setting is extremely skillful.
The way it skillfully presents the rift between the two countries, Wakoku and Leek, and the atmosphere of the deserted island where people have disappeared at key points is just... it's the best.
The ruins in the background images are especially good...

Well, if I go too deep, I'll end up spoiling it, so I'll keep it under wraps from here on...
The volume and quality are both very satisfying, so I definitely want ADV fans to play it!There are a total of 20 endings!!
And you can play it for free right now! (Though you need Chrome)
Afterword
And so, that was theErinyesintroduction.
Please take some time during your three-day weekend to play it with a light heart and let your time melt away.
If you do that, I'll be happy!
Jokes aside, it's a masterpiece so impressive that it made the fans of the time decide to revive it, so I truly want various gamers to pick it up. I promise you won't regret it. Oh, but please keep the volume low (´・ω・`)

That's all for today.
See you next time.
