Aitaina, Weekly Short-Short Note, 410 Characters
She obtained a bulb of 'Aitaina,' a plant that shows the face of the person you want to see.
It grew in the blink of an eye, and the face of her ex-boyfriend emerged on the surface of the leaves.
Every day, she spun words. About the day they broke up, her regrets, and her wish to see him one more time. Each time, the face on the leaf would take on a gentle expression.
However, one day, his face narrowed its eyes and wore an expression of contempt.
The next day, the words 'I know' appeared on the leaf.
She was shaken. She had vaguely sensed that their relationship had grown cold because of a small lie she had kept hidden.
'The person you want to see isn't the real me.'
She froze at the words that appeared on the leaf. And then she realized. The person she had been wishing to see all this time was not the real him, but an illusion of him she had idealized herself.
Eventually, the leaf withered. When she went to throw it away, she found a new, small bulb. The bulb's feelings were emerging.
'Sorry, I got jealous.'
She stared intently at the bulb.
'Next time, be my confidant.'

To be jealous of an ex-boyfriend—what a strangely human-like vegetable.
And, 'Next time, be my confidant,' huh.
