The Boundary Between note and Me
"Are you me, and am I you?"
I want someone to tell me
I have loved books since I was in the upper grades of elementary school
Whenever I found an author I liked,
I would read everything they had written
The world of novels felt somewhat distant
There were characters there, and a story
The author was a distant presence
As a reader, I was just enjoying that world
note is a little different
I start reading a piece of writing on a whim
Before I know it, I'm intrigued by that person's words
"What is this person looking at?" "Why do they feel this way about this?"
Such curiosity begins to well up
Moreover, the person writing those words is living somewhere in Japan at this very moment
The scenery they saw
The thoughts they felt
A world that is theirs alone
Their breathing, their gestures, their gaze, their body temperature
Through their writing, I can touch it just a little
I used to peek into the worlds inside books
Now, I am peeking into the worldview born from that person's daily life
Perhaps I don't want to know the "person" themselves, but rather
I might want to know the world that "that person" is seeing
"You are me, and I am you"
The moment I feel that way might not be because we share the same thoughts, but because
when I touch upon how that person feels,
I find something similar within myself
However,
the boundaries on note are too blurry
Knowing me,
I would probably
end up using comments and question boxes aggressively
In fact, the world that person creates is so wonderful that
I want to know more, I want to get closer, and so...
But,
I want to remember that there is a real life in reality, too
That on the other side of the text on the internet, there is
that person's "real life," completely different from mine, flowing steadily
That is precisely why
I want to make sure I don't forget the sense of distance
Because it is my own ego that would make me intrude deeply into the other person's reality

I am sure I will continue to read that person's posts from now on.
From this side of the screen,
I will gently peek into the worldview born from that person's daily life.
Perhaps the true kindness of a place like note is that we can stay connected while maintaining that boundary, which is comfortable for both of us.
Without being bound by roles or positions in reality,
purely receiving only the beautiful worldview that person weaves.
Because it is a distance that cannot be reached,
it is a connection that can remain untainted and pure.
It would be a lie to say I don't feel lonely,
but I think this is the kindest and most sincere way of drawing a boundary that I have chosen.
Without stepping in, without taking,
I simply pray for the happiness of that person's life from this side of the screen.
I want to continue to cherish such quiet kindness
in this place called note
as I move forward.
