Twenty-four Solar Terms: Great Heat
Seventy-two Micro-seasons: Great Rains Sometimes Fall
(Estimated reading time: approx. 2 minutes)
Foreword
According to the calendar, it is still the "Great Heat."
During this period, considered the hottest of the year, the sky suddenly clouds over and occasionally releases heavy rain.
This micro-season is called "Great Rains Sometimes Fall."
Though it seems like a whim of the heavens, it may be a momentary, merciful rain meant to cool the earth.
This time, I would like to share a short poem that reflects the swaying of the heart upon the arrival of such rain.
"Great Rains, Sometimes"
What the sky was holding back
comes undone and falls
one drop, two drops
with a hesitation loud enough to make a sound
The raindrops soak a moment of coolness
into the frayed edges of the city
But
what I truly want to cool
is not my body, but the heat deep within my heart
It is a feeling I can tell no one
something nameless that I continue to carry
Sometimes, it falls
and just by that
I can become a little softer
Afterword
"Great Rains Sometimes Fall" is not just a simple evening shower,
but a rain that feels as if the sky itself is trying to tell us something.
It lasts for only a brief moment,
arriving suddenly and then departing.
Just like our own emotions.
—What kind of rain is falling inside you right now?
