【Age-Gap Sibling Trip】How to Keep Dad from Getting Exhausted with a 2nd Grader & a Baby! The Ultimate Yonezawa Hot Spring Healing Route♨️
Thank you so much for all your hard work with work and parenting every day! This is ymsa428.
“A 2nd grader and a 5-month-old baby”
That’s the age gap in our family, but honestly, isn’t planning a trip for “age-gap siblings” incredibly difficult?
If you move actively to suit the older child, the younger one gets tired and fussy, and if you match the baby’s pace, the older one says, “This is boring!” lol. As a result, both Mom and Dad end up being too careful, and by the time you head home, your HP is at zero... I think every dad in the country has experienced this at least once (lol).
We went on a family trip to Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture during Golden Week, and we managed to pioneer a miraculous route where “the whole family can have fun and Dad can be healed to the max”!
This time, I’ll share how we balanced “family smiles” and “Dad’s stamina”. I’ll deliver the real experience along with photos! Busy dads across the country, please take this as a reference.

The “Uesugi Shrine” hack for not overpacking your schedule
The absolute golden rule for an age-gap trip is “don’t pack your schedule too tight”.
This time, we made the classic Yonezawa spot, “Uesugi Shrine,” our main destination.
💡Trivia💡 “Uesugi Shrine” in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, is a shrine dedicated to Uesugi Kenshin, but the grounds are apparently the site of “Yonezawa Castle,” where Date Masamune was born. (I looked it up when we were going and learned that there. lol)

This place is actually incredibly helpful for age-gap siblings.
For my 2nd-grade older child, the historical atmosphere and the excitement of exploring really got her hyped up. “They sold pigeon feed and carp feed at the shop, so my 2nd-grade daughter had fun feeding them!”

And above all, there are few steps and the paths are wide!
Moving around with a stroller was truly stress-free. Minimizing the burden of travel to spend time relaxing at the destination is the biggest key to not draining a dad's energy.
An "In-Room Open-Air Bath" that balances a dad's need for healing with a baby-first approach
And the inn we stayed at this time was...
"Takasagoya" in Onogawa Onsen
It was a truly wonderful inn with a retro and calm atmosphere.

The truth is, when you take a baby to a "public bath," both moms and dads can't enjoy the water at all because they're worried about what others think, like "What if they start crying?"
That's exactly why we decided to go all out and choose a "room with an open-air bath + free private bath."
Guests could also use the private bath for free for one hour.

With this, you don't have to worry about time at all, and while keeping an eye on the kids, you can refresh yourself 120%. Just by making your time at the inn a little more luxurious, the "fatigue" of travel turns into "the ultimate healing."
The service, hospitality, and room were all satisfying, and the inn staff were incredibly kind.
The food was so plentiful we couldn't finish it, and the main course featured a generous portion of Yonezawa beef steak.
And here is why I want to recommend this inn: we stayed for one night starting May 5th, and the price was very reasonable.
Including breakfast and dinner (Yonezawa beef steak plan) + a room with an open-air bath, we were able to stay for 54,000 yen for four people.
My wife has been working hard, and I really wanted to take my family on a one-night trip during Golden Week, so I kept searching. However, because I was looking for a room with an open-air bath during the GW period, everywhere was too expensive and out of reach, and I had given up, but this inn saved us! lol
I truly recommend it.
Creating the "ultimate holiday" through planning, not willpower
Even with "age-gap siblings," with some ingenuity and prior research, you can definitely create a trip where both mom and dad are healed to the max.
Actually, I planned this route and chose the accommodation at overwhelming speed using my personal AI secretary.
I will reveal the real behind-the-scenes of 'What kind of instructions did you give Gemini to create this travel plan?' in my next article!
Thank you for reading this far!
