Unwind with volcanoes and hot springs in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. A girls' trip to take a deep breath in the forests of Arenal
La Fortuna, Costa Rica, is a town where volcanoes, forests, waterfalls, and hot springs are all packed closely together.
See the Arenal Volcano in the morning, walk through the forest in the afternoon, and relax in the hot springs in the evening. The best part is that you can actually rest, even though it's a nature trip.
“I want to see amazing views, but a trip where I'm constantly pushing myself is a bit tiring.”
I think La Fortuna will really resonate with people like that.
In this article, I will summarize La Fortuna and the area around the Arenal Volcano from the perspective of a women's trip.
I've included things you should know before your first visit, including information on volcanoes, waterfalls, forests, hot springs, transportation, nighttime precautions, and whether it's suitable for solo or group travel.
Ease of travel for women: ★★★★☆
According to the U.S. Department of State's travel advisories, Costa Rica is at a level where you should "exercise increased caution."
While La Fortuna is well-developed as a tourist destination, you need to be careful about pickpocketing, theft, nighttime travel, and car break-ins.
Even so, if you make good use of tours and transfers, it's a place that is very easy for women to enjoy.
If you are traveling solo, focus on tours that include hotel transfers. If you are traveling with friends, combining volcano hikes, waterfalls, and hot springs will lead to high satisfaction.
The trip begins the moment you see the Arenal Volcano
The star of La Fortuna is, of course, the Arenal Volcano.
There are days when it's covered in clouds, but its presence the moment it comes into clear view is incredible. Just having the volcano standing there behind the town changes the mood of the trip.
The SINAC Arenal Volcano National Park information also highlights the volcano's vistas and the natural resources of the tropical rainforest.
If you're going to walk, check the weather and the terrain, and choose a course that isn't too strenuous.

It's safer to take a guide for volcano hikes
There are tours around Arenal that let you walk through the volcano and lava trails.
Not only can you enjoy nature, but you can also learn about the plants, animals, and the history of the volcano, so a guided tour is definitely recommended for first-timers.
Even if you are traveling solo, tours make transportation and safety easier.
However, there are slippery areas, so wear clothes you can walk in rather than a white dress. Don't forget insect repellent, rain gear, and drinking water.

The La Fortuna Waterfall takes more physical effort than it looks in photos
Waterfalls are also popular around La Fortuna.
The force of the water and the richness of the greenery are incredible, giving you the feeling of being enveloped by tropical nature.
However, the path to the waterfall has stairs and slopes, and the return trip can be surprisingly tough.
The area near the water is slippery, so don't push yourself by wearing only sandals. If you plan to swim, be careful with your belongings and the water current. In places as beautiful as this, I really want you to watch your step.

Suspension bridges let you experience the forest from above
In the forests around La Fortuna, suspension bridges and nature observation tours are also popular.
The appeal is being able to feel the layers of the forest from a height you can't see just by walking on the ground.
If you aren't good with heights, it's okay not to force yourself to include them.
If you are traveling with friends, it's reassuring to talk about your strengths and weaknesses beforehand. For nature activities, it's best to choose an intensity level that everyone can enjoy until the end.

Hot springs are the reward for a trip to La Fortuna
The great thing about La Fortuna is that you can rest in hot springs after walking.
There are hot spring facilities unique to being near a volcano, and the time spent wrapped in steam in the middle of the forest is quite luxurious.
There are both high-end and casual facilities, but if you go at night, be sure to check your transportation for the return trip.
It's easier if you have a swimsuit, a cover-up, a waterproof bag, and a bag for wet items. It's also important not to get cold after the hot springs.

Enjoy a light stroll through town during the day
In the center of La Fortuna, there are eateries, cafes, tour companies, and souvenir shops, making it easy to use as a base for your trip.
It's not a big city, so you can enjoy walking around town even if it's just for a short time.
It is easy to walk around during the day, but you should avoid walking on deserted roads late at night.
If you are traveling alone, I recommend having dinner near your accommodation or at a place that provides transportation. Even if you are traveling with friends, it is safer to use ride-sharing or taxis for nighttime travel.

Rain is not an enemy, but a part of the journey
On a nature trip in Costa Rica, it may rain.
However, the forest becomes a deeper green after the rain, and clouds drift over the volcano, which can actually create a better atmosphere.
The problem is not the rain itself, but a lack of preparation.
Shoes that can get wet, lightweight rain gear, and a bag to protect your smartphone. These things alone will significantly change your comfort level. For nature trips, the balance between style and practicality is important.

Summary
La Fortuna is a destination where you can experience both the power of nature and time to rest.
Volcanoes, forests, waterfalls, and hot springs. You can be active, but you can also truly unwind at the end of the day. This is what makes it so great.
As for a women's trip, it is easy to get around if you use tours and transportation services.
However, since caution against crime is advised throughout Costa Rica, please be careful about nighttime travel, luggage management, and being alone in deserted areas.
I would recommend La Fortuna to people who want to be enveloped by nature but also want some healing in their travels.
