How to reverse the page display order in Word 2019

A solution for when you feel it is difficult to read because the page display order is fixed to left-to-right when creating vertical writing documents in Word, and the [Document display] item is missing from the options settings.

※This is a personal memo for problem-solving, so please proceed at your own risk when changing settings based on this article.

Steps to change settings

Although the display format differs slightly depending on the version, you can set the page display to right-to-left in Word 2019 by following the procedure of "installing Arabic".

・Open [Options] from the bottom left of [File], and select [Language]

① Click the [Add a Language] button to the right of the [Office display language] menu
② Select [Arabic] from the list of languages to install
③ Uncheck the [Set as Office display language] checkbox [Important]
・Click [Install]
※If you install Arabic without unchecking the [Set as Office display language] checkbox, the display of all Office software including Word will become Arabic after restarting (the solution is described later)

・Restart Word and open a file (a new document is fine), then select [Advanced] from [Options]
・Scroll down the screen to find the [Show document content] menu, and select [Right-to-left] for [Document view:]
・Click [OK]

This will set the page display order to right-to-left.
When handling horizontal documents or when you want to revert the settings, you can return it to left-to-right by selecting [Left-to-right] in the options settings again.

How to fix it when the display of Word or Office software has become entirely Arabic

※Since Arabic is read from right to left, all menu displays will be reversed
※Make sure to close all Office software other than Word

・Click [ملف] in the top right, and click [خيارات] in the bottom right(Open options from the file menu)

① Select [اللغة] which is the 6th item from the top of the options menu(Language settings)
② Click [(日本語) اليابانية]Microsoft Windows مطابقة in the list above
※Any item displayed as [Japanese] is fine. This is the item to set it to the same language as Windows (i.e., Japanese)
③ Click [تعيين كمفضلة] at the bottom of the left buttons,Confirm that the Japanese item moves to the top of the list and the <مفضلة> display is attached(Reset the selected language as the preferred Office display language)
・Click [موافق] on the right side of the bottom buttons(Confirm changes)

・When the warning screen appears, click [OK] and restart Word
(It is just instructing you to restart Office to apply the language change)

*If this method does not fix the issue, it is highly likely that the Windows language settings themselves have been changed for some reason, or that the error is caused by another factor.
