Manga to Read During the Obon Holidays
Hello.
This is Hiro Tsukasa.
I have been neglecting this for quite a while, but I am resuming my posts.
Now that we are in the Obon holiday period, how is everyone doing?
I imagine there are some of you thinking, 'I have time off, but nothing to do!'
For those people, I would like to introduce some completed manga series that you can finish reading during the Obon holidays.
・This Communication (12 volumes in total)
This is a work I have mentioned before in my 'Hit Works of the Week' updates.
It is a story about saving the world while building human relationships and killing off comrades under the very severe condition that you can reset your relationship with someone by killing them (though it's game over if you get caught).
The content is very dense for the number of volumes, so you can read it all in one day or take your time over two or three days.
It is a work that is just the right length to read.
・Ushio and Tora (34 volumes in total)
Speaking of summer, we think of ghost stories, and speaking of ghost stories, we think of yokai, so here is this work.
It is a well-known epic manga, but if you have never read it, please take this opportunity to do so.
The way 'Ushio' and 'Tora,' who were initially at odds, gradually open their hearts to each other and fight as buddies is heart-stirring, and the farewell scenes with various characters are guaranteed to make you cry.
It is a bit long at 34 volumes, but it is a work I want you to read all at once precisely because it is a long break.
・SALAD DAYS (18 volumes in total)
This is an omnibus romance manga for boys.
You can enjoy various romantic patterns, from the heart-pounding moments of a summer to bittersweet first loves.
Since it is an omnibus, it is easy to read because you can start or stop whenever you like.
There are similar omnibus works like 'Boys Be...' and 'Girlfriend,' but this one is more refreshing, making it a perfect work for summer.
・Hanada Shonen-shi (4 volumes in total)
A slightly mysterious story set in a rural area that feels like the original landscape of Japan.
It is a heartwarming work that begins when the protagonist, a boy named Ichiro Hanada, suddenly becomes able to see ghosts.
The author is Makoto Isshiki, who drew 'Forest of Piano'.
You can feel the heat of summer and the excitement of childhood, so please turn off the air conditioner and enjoy it with some ice-cold barley tea.
Of course, just make sure you don't get heatstroke!
・Natsu no Zenjitsu (5 volumes in total)
I have been listing shonen manga so far, but this one has a slightly more mature taste.
It is a passionate and fleeting love story between a second-year art student and a woman who runs a gallery.
Please fully enjoy the tension and impatience of your first mature romance, as well as the sense of omnipotence and immaturity that comes with youth.
So, I have introduced some manga you might want to read during the Obon holidays.
I picked out works that feel like summer as much as possible, so please use this as a reference if your schedule suddenly clears up.
Have a great summer vacation!
