Why is the '-1.0' in 'Godzilla Minus One' not just '-1'?

It might be a bit late, but I went to see 'Godzilla Minus One'.

In a word, it was shocking.

This film has become, without exaggeration, the greatest masterpiece I have ever seen.

There are many things I want to talk about, such as the wonderful design of Godzilla and the music, but this time I would like to consider what the '-1.0' in the title actually means.

Prior information

The setting is Japan immediately after its defeat in the war.

Because of the defeat, it became '0'.

(Including physical things like collapsed buildings and the mental state of the people)

Then, Godzilla suddenly appears.

I believe the narration mentioned that this plunges them from '0' to '-1', into even greater despair.

However, if that is the case, wouldn't '-1' be enough? Why go to the trouble of adding '.0' at the end?

Learning from Web 3.0

The term 'Web 3.0', which we don't hear much about lately, gives us a hint.

The '.0' in a number is used to 'clearly distinguish it from the previous generation'.

When what was originally 'Web 2.0' underwent minor evolutions, it could be expressed as 'Web 2.1' or 'Web 2.2'.

And by becoming 'Web 3.0', it can express that 'Web 3.0' is significantly different from 'Web 2.0'.

By having '.0' attached, it can express a major evolution, innovation, or transformation from the previous version.

The two meanings of '-1.0'

From this, the following two things can be assumed for Godzilla's '-1.0'.

1. '-1.0' signifies a major transformation from previous Godzilla films.

While it is difficult to define exactly what 'previous Godzilla films' refers to, it likely points to the original 'Godzilla' which shares a similar background, and the most recent 'Shin Godzilla'.

Compared to the original 'Godzilla', it has evolved through the use of VFX and powerful music.

Compared to 'Shin Godzilla', it offers an innovative perspective by focusing on family drama.

2. '-1.0' suggests that the negative stories of the survivors will continue.

The reason the heroine was able to survive and the final scene hint at various 'despairs' to come.

'Godzilla Minus One' is a masterpiece, thanks to its overwhelming intensity, impressive creature design, and fantastic sound effects.

It is a film packed with the charm of Godzilla, and it is content that can be fully enjoyed by any generation.

I am particularly fond of the 'Godzilla before it grew giant' that appears at the beginning of the film.
