On nights when you think you're right, but something still lingers | Even under an umbrella, you can still get wet
Hello, this is Yukino.
I still remember, from time to time, the night I was told, "I think that was the right decision."
The words were certain.
They weren't wrong.
And yet, even after I got on the train,
something still lingered faintly around the back of my neck.
It wasn't so much a weight, but more of a rough sensation,
still there.
The person who offered those words meant no harm.
They were kind.
They were thoughtful.
They listened to me properly.
Even so, when I got home and gently touched the back of my neck with my fingertips,
it was still a little stiff.
I had received the right words, but something hadn't been unraveled.
"Your decision is not wrong."
Those words had landed somewhere in my head just fine.
I knew it was right.
But my heart hadn't received anything yet.
The feeling of relief, that is.
Knowing something is right and feeling at ease were not the same thing.

Rightness was like an umbrella.
It was offered to me.
I accepted it.
Even though I was under the umbrella,
it was a night where I still felt unprotected.
It is not that the umbrella was wrong.
It was simply that the parts left unprotected
were outside the umbrella.
I think what I wanted was
the feeling of being told, "That is okay."that was all.
Even before considering whether it was right or not.
The feeling of, "I accept exactly what you chose today."
After some time had passed, I realized that correctness and peace of mind had been heading in different directions from the start.
Once I realized that, I began to be able to remember that night in a slightly different way.
After getting off the train, my fingertips suddenly brushed against the back of my neck.
Correctness was certainly there.
But, apart from that,
the back of my neck was still a little stiff.
