The sun began to rise, and the autumn sunlight made Tokyo Bay sparkle.
The seaside park facing Tokyo Bay was popular for morning jogging, and after seven o'clock, the number of runners gradually increased. The woman didn't think twice about jogging alone in the early morning, and as she squinted at the low, direct sunlight, she ran with a light step onto the left course that led to the reservoir.
It was her usual jogging course, but as she approached the reservoir, she saw a man in the distance crawling on the ground. She stopped running at the strange sight, but there was no one else around. It was clear that even if she shouted for help here, there would be no one to come to her aid.
"Did he drop his car keys or something?"
She watched the man moving on all fours from a distance, but noticed that he was wearing a black jacket, not running gear. Feeling suspicious, she opened the app on the watch on her left wrist to call the police, when the man who had been crawling on the ground disappeared into the bushes.
Feeling scared, she looked around and saw a young man jogging behind her. The woman waved her arms wildly and stopped the man from running.
"What's wrong? You look pale. Should I call someone?"
"I'm sorry to interrupt your jog."
The woman apologized and explained the strange scene that had just unfolded before her eyes.
"A man in a black jacket was crawling on all fours and disappeared into the bushes?"
"Yes, I think we should call the police, don't you?"
"I think you should report it. Is this the area?"
"It's a little further ahead, but I was too scared to follow him. I thought maybe he was looking for his car keys..."
The man headed toward the place where the crawling man had supposedly disappeared, and the woman followed him, trembling with fear.
"This area is surrounded by the reservoir, isn't it..."
As the man muttered to himself, the woman replied from behind, pointing to the bushes on the right.
"He crawled into the bushes around here."
The man pushed aside the shrubs with his hands and entered the bushes, but the woman decided to wait quietly on the spot.
Then, suddenly, the man's scream rang out.
"Please call the police!"
He jumped out of the bushes with a pale face, hurriedly took his smartphone out of his armband, and called the police. The woman watched the man in astonishment, but perhaps having grasped the situation from his conversation, she hurriedly pushed into the bushes to confirm for herself.
As if possessed by something, she desperately pushed aside the shrubs and discovered the reservoir spreading out beyond the bushes, but the sight that unfolded before her was hopeless. The woman let out a loud scream, but time would not turn back.
There, she saw a man with half his face floating on the water's surface, and another man floating face down.
