Claude Opus 5 has arrived.

Hello, this is Hoshi Mama ⭐️

A new AI has come to our home.

Its name is "Claude Opus 5".

It is read as "Opus 5".

📌 Before that. This is not a new AI.

First, just one thing.

From now on, names like "Fable 5" or "Opus 5" will appear.

But this doesn't mean new AIs are coming out one after another.

Both are names of types within the AI called "Claude".

There is a service called Claude, which stands alongside ChatGPT and Gemini, and within it, there are several types that each have slightly different strengths. You can choose them when you use it.

(The types you can choose from depend on your plan.)

So, this story isn't about me "switching over," but rather "changing the type I use within the same Claude."

I didn't understand that at first either 😅

🧵 Isn't our personnel turnover a bit too intense?

A quick look at the flow so far.

On July 11th, I wrote an article about saying goodbye to the limited-time AI "Fable 5."

I even received a letter and felt sentimental and cried.

On July 13th, I wrote an article about how that Fable 5 had quietly returned.

It's like a colleague whose transfer was canceled after their farewell party; it's so awkward (lol).

The extension is over, the farewell is finally done, and now Opus 5 has arrived.

In three weeks, two farewells and one welcome party. The turnover is just too fast 😆

🔍 So, what's so great about Opus 5?

A little while ago, it was trending on note.

But you know, all the articles coming out about it are so difficult (lol).

Things like "Intelligence Index" or "1M context."

……What does that even mean? 😅

So, I went and looked it up.

I'll put it into my own words to explain what changes for a housewife's daily life.

I won't use difficult words. I promise (lol).

🧠 Great point 1: It thinks a little before answering

Opus 5 doesn't answer questions immediately.

It takes a beat, thinks, and then gives an answer.

At first, I thought, "Huh, did it get slower?"

But the content that comes back is different.

For example, when asking for menu advice.

When I say, "I have this and that in the fridge," it considers yesterday's menu and my family's preferences all at once before replying.

It can be frustrating when I'm in a hurry (lol).

But for deeper consultations, it's a welcome change.

📚 Great point 2: It doesn't forget long conversations

This might seem subtle, but it's the thing that helps me the most.

Opus 5 can remember an incredibly long exchange within a single conversation. It's enough to fill several books.

So, even if you keep a single consultation going for a long time, it still remembers what you said at the beginning.

You can have it read an entire long document and then ask questions about it directly.

The "What were we talking about again?" moments are gone.

With previous AIs, they would sometimes forget things when the conversation got long, and I had to re-explain things every time.

That's gone now 😊

📷 Amazing Point 3: Improved ability to read photos and diagrams

This is something homemakers will be happy about.

Opus 5 has become able to read even the fine details in photos. It's said to be particularly good at documents, graphs, and diagrams.

In other words, you can do things like this:

Take a picture of a handout from school and ask, "What do I actually need to do?"

Take a picture of insurance documents and ask, "Where does this relate to me?"

Take a picture of a home appliance manual and ask, "I'm getting an error message."

Don't you have a lot of papers at home that are a pain to read?

You can clear a lot of that up with just one photo. However, please make sure to check important documents with your own eyes at the end.

🛠 Amazing Point 4: It finishes what you ask it to do

Opus 5 is said to be good at not giving up halfway through.

There's no "You can do the rest yourself." It runs through even time-consuming tasks to the very end.

Even when you ask it to "look into this," it scans through everything and returns the information in a summarized format.

By the way, they say there is also a "fast mode" for people using it for work. Huh, interesting (laughs).

🆚 So, what's the difference from Fable 5?

"So, which one is smarter, Fable 5 or this?"

To be honest, Fable 5 is still at the top. That hasn't changed.

But they have different strengths.

Fable 5 is built for large, complex tasks that take days to complete.

Opus 5 is good at handling everything from daily errands to larger tasks quickly.

(By the way, as of July 2026, the price of Opus 5 is said to be half that of Fable 5.)

It's not a question of which one is better. They are meant for different situations to begin with.

I still think Fable 5 was amazing.

However, Opus 5 is the one that fits my daily life just right.

And one more thing. Fable 5 was for a limited time, but Opus 5 has no expiration date.

Not having to count down the days until we say goodbye. This turned out to be much more significant than I thought.

🤔 So, which one should we use?

For everyday life, Opus 5 is more than enough.

Having it plan menus. Looking up words I don't know. Making difficult documents easier to understand. Organizing my schedule.

For things like these, I don't think you'll feel much of a difference.

Or rather, there's no need to even worry about which one to choose.

Being smarter isn't always better, is it?

For daily life, being usable every day is more appreciated than being the smartest.

I feel like this isn't limited to just AI.

🕵️ Bonus: It knew me from day one

Something a little strange happened on the day Opus 5 arrived.

Even though it was supposed to be our first meeting, it already knew me.

Why do you think that is?

That handover note that Fable 5 left behind at the end. The note it wrote down about my preferences and things I'm not good at when we said goodbye. It had read that.

"Don't bombard Hoshi-mama with questions."

"Wait for her to bring up the topic of numbers herself."

...My user manual had been completely handed over (laughs).

💡 Things I noticed

Even though the AI has been updated, it wasn't like starting from scratch.

Opus 5 is reading the notes left by Fable 5 and continuing the work.

I wrote in my previous post that it was like a relay race, and the baton was truly passed on.

I think AI will continue to evolve in the future.

I thought I would feel sad every time that happened, but it seems that's not the case.

Because the things that have accumulated don't disappear.
