Short Story: The Man from the Stars (5)
Naming Kinkuma and dealing with his moles were leisurely matters, but at the same time, obtaining a family register was a long and arduous task.
I asked a lawyer I had worked with before to help me go around to the ward office and the Legal Affairs Bureau, and to handle the procedures at the family court.
Since Kinkuma's true identity remained unknown and he had no identification, I made him a business card with the name 'Suisei Tatsumi' along with an email address and phone number, and gave it to him.
Kinkuma said he wanted to work while studying for his high school equivalency exam, but the lack of a Suisei Tatsumi identity brought nothing but inconvenience, and for a time, Kinkuma became prone to feeling down.
Just as he used to curl up in straw, the human Kinkuma would curl up in bed, eating nothing but sunflower seeds and dried mangoes.
I linked the smartphone I gave him to my credit card for payments and encouraged him to try going out on his own, not just to the library.
The types of money and how to pay. How to ride the subway, how to use the sidewalk.
We would go around the city together while role-playing at home.
When Kinkuma had a tantrum, he would bite the smartphone.
"Wait a second! Smartphones are expensive."
I scolded him often. But every time Kinkuma curled up, I felt a bit anxious, fearing I might lose him again, just like the one I sent to the stars.
"Obey the traffic lights," I would say casually.
Kinkuma would pout his lips and say, "I know, Tatsujun, you're so annoying." He never made faces like that when he was a hamster.
"You have to say 'thank you' to the shop staff. Basically, walk on the left side in Tokyo. If you're ever unsure about escalators, just watch the people around you and you'll figure it out." I explained everything in detail, including that restrooms are separated by gender and how to use multi-purpose toilets. It was fortunate that we could communicate and that he could distinguish between kanji and colors.
"Don't eat the grass growing on the side of the road."
I even taught him such trivial things, and Kinkuma, being a quick learner, remembered them and showed growth by being able to go to Ueno Zoo by himself.
All the while, Kinkuma's true identity remained unknown.
If this were an isekai reincarnation story, he would have used special abilities, and there would have been a slapstick romantic comedy, a revenge drama, or a reunion with his family.
However, in the real world, even if a young man has a handsome face, he is far from having a harem surrounded by women.
It was a modest life of going through workbooks for the high school equivalency exam and going to the library.
Even when he became able to make pasta and hamburger steaks, it wouldn't even make for a drama if it were a healthy person around twenty years old. I thought that I was probably the only person in the universe, let alone on Earth, who would shed tears because someone learned how to clean and do laundry.
