[Agentforce Q&A] The 'Include Attachments' button is grayed out and cannot be selected when creating a search index
*This Q&A is based on information as of February 23, 2026.
'The "Include Attachments" button is grayed out and cannot be selected (clicked) when creating a search index'

When you first start using Data 360 (formerly Data Cloud), are you encountering this issue?
When implementing an agent that incorporates RAG in Agentforce, initial settings are also required on the Data 360 side.
However, when creating a search index for the first time, it seems that you cannot manually add attachments to the "Fields to Chunk" as shown in the image above.
Therefore, in this article, I will answer "how to configure settings so that the 'Include Attachments' button can be selected when creating a search index."
🚩 The Issue
"The 'Include Attachments' button is grayed out and cannot be selected (clicked) when creating a search index"
🚩 Answer
1.
STEP 1: Confirming necessary system settings and permissions
First, check if the infrastructure settings for importing attachments are enabled.
1. Enabling Files settings

Enabling Files settings: Go to [Setup] > [Salesforce Files] > [General Settings] and check [Enable ingestion of files into Data Cloud].
2. Checking permission sets

Next, in Permission Sets > Data Cloud Architect > Manage Assignments, confirm that the "Data Cloud Architect" permission set is assigned to the executing user.
Then, in Permission Sets > Data Cloud Salesforce Connector > [App Permissions] > [Enable View Knowledge], check the box.

This completes the system and permission settings.
STEP 2: Creating and mapping the three required data streams
Next, we will configure the ingestion of three objects related to attachments into Data Cloud.

1. Create a data stream for each of the following three objects.
ContentDocument
ContentDocumentLink
ContentVersion
2. Once the data streams are created, map the following data lake objects (left) to the data model objects (right) as shown in the figure below.
* ContentVersion is mapped automatically.

ContentDocument ID => Content Document Id
Latest Published Version ID => Latest Published Version

ContentDocument ID => Content Document
ContentDocumentLink ID => Content Document Relatio
Last Modified Date => Last Modified Date
Linked Entity ID => Related Item
STEP 3: Setting relationships between objects
Link the created attachment DMO to the source DMO (such as Opportunity or Account) that will be indexed. If this relationship is not configured correctly, the button will not become active.
1. Open the [Content Document Relationship DMO] on the [Data Model] tab, and create or edit from the [Relationships] tab.

2. Create and activate the following relationship for the source DMO you want to link with attachments (e.g., Opportunity).

Object: Content Document Relationship
Field: Related Item (*Please be careful here as this is a common mistake)
Cardinality: ManyToOne (N:1)
Related Object DMO: Target source DMO (e.g., Opportunity)
Related Field: Primary key of the target DMO (e.g., Opportunity Id)
That is all for the configuration. Once the correct relationship is built, the 'Include Attachments' button will become clickable on the Search Index Builder screen.

That is all for this time.
