Mid-30s hona, two steps away from a slipped disc. Creating a system to stretch while camping is an urgent task.
Yes, I've done it.
Mid-30s hona has hurt her lower back....
**********
There are two causes: a cold with a cough, and camping.
I believe there are two reasons for this.
One is that I had a cold with a cough.
It seems my daughter caught it at kindergarten, where it's going around like crazy, and I seem to have caught that cold just before Golden Week...
It was a throat cold that came with a cough; my throat wasn't sore the whole time, but I felt a scratchiness and kept coughing.
And the other reason is that I went camping during Golden Week and my body was stiff as a board.
This time, things were a bit different; one adult had to cancel at the last minute, and because it was Golden Week, we couldn't book a nearby campsite and it took about 3 hours each way.
I honestly didn't feel like it was a burden myself.
But in reality, my mid-30s body was under a little bit of strain, and on top of that, as I mentioned, I had a cold, and hay fever was mixed in too, so I had no time or physical energy to spare, and I couldn't do almost any of the yoga or stretching I usually do a little bit of, so I think my body was completely locked up.
Oh, and for your reference, this is what our family's camping style is like~.
・5th year as family campers *As of 2023
・Husband, me, son (2nd grade), daughter (middle year of kindergarten)
・Our partner is a light blue Freed. We have an inno roof carrier attached.
・20 nights in 2022
・Living in Yokohama
・Doesn't have to be high-spec, but I want good water facilities (I'd be happy if the toilets were clean too)
When I gave a big cough, my lower back went 'snap.' Two steps away from a slipped disc.
And then, on the Monday after Golden Week,
it happened...
While I was eating dinner, I had a massive coughing fit.
It was a cough that brought tears to my eyes, enough to worry my family...
And then, on the umpteenth big cough,
Snap!
I felt that pain in my lower back, the one that's different from the usual.
Oh, I've done it...
Due to my skeletal structure and posture, I've had lower back pain since high school, but actually, I experienced similar pain once a few years ago when I was an office worker.
I forgot the cause back then, but the situation was that I could barely walk, and when I went to the orthopedic surgeon, they said, 'You're one step away from a slipped disc.'
This time it's better than that, but when I walk, I have to bend my waist slightly and lean my back forward, otherwise it hurts too much to walk. Yes, that walk you often see older ladies doing in town... (´;ω;`)
I think it feels like 'one step away from being one step away from a slipped disc.'
I need a 'system' that allows me to stretch while camping.
It's been about four days now, and I'm slowly getting better, but I've taken this opportunity to swear to myself that no matter what happens when I'm camping, I will absolutely do some stretching or yoga!! I've sworn it in my heart.
If anything, I wrote about the same thing in an article last year, too. (lol)
But the important thing is that despite writing an article about it last year, the fact that I'm dealing with this kind of pain now means that even if I swear to do it, I can't. So,
creating a system that makes it easy to stretch or do yoga while camping is something I think I'll make one of my camping goals for this year.
For example, I think it's easiest to stretch before bed or right after waking up in the morning, so I could keep an outdoor yoga mat ready to set up immediately so I can do it right away.
I'll think about other ideas loosely and gather information so I can try to put them into practice the next time I go camping.
I'm also considering getting a new inner mat.
Also, another thing is that the next time I buy more camping gear, I'm thinking of considering getting a new inner mat as a top priority.
For example, I want something like this ☟. It's expensive. (lol)
By the way, the one I'm using now is a double-sized inner mat from Logos ☟.
This one isn't bad either, but since it's already in its fifth year, it barely inflates even though it's supposed to be self-inflating, so my husband ends up blowing air into it with his mouth. (lol)
Also, it's only about 5cm thick, and considering the risk of a serious slipped disc next time, I think it might be okay to upgrade to a mat that can prevent back pain.
Within my budget, of course (doubtful, lol).
In conclusion.
So, for those who go camping for multiple nights, and especially for those who suffer from back pain, I want to strongly recommend that even if you feel tired, you should still loosen up your body a little!!
Well, that's all for today.
Thank you for reading until the end!
