Welcome. The lights have been turned on at this four-seat counter again tonight.
Last time, I talked about the big stage at Kanda Myojin, but the origin of everything for me is, after all, right here at "Nakano Candy." Today, I will talk about the mysterious power of a "place" that I have spent my life creating.
1. [Creating from Zero] The overwhelming sense of security that comes from having a "place"
Do you have a "place" of your own? The thing I am most glad I did in the second half of my life is that I created a physical "place" from scratch.
The space called "Bar Nakano Candy." There is the plumbing I was so particular about, the Scotch I chose lined up, and the counter I polished myself. The mere fact that this "box" exists in this world has dramatically increased the strength of my life.
It is not my home, nor is it my workplace. But having a "base" where I can be myself without needing anyone's permission. Because this immovable place exists, I can jump out into the outside world with peace of mind and take on the adventure of giving lectures.
2. [People Gather] The energy that starts moving through the "mechanism" of events
Once you create a place, the next step is to breathe "life" into it. At Nakano Candy, I don't just serve drinks; I organize various events.
It is a strange thing, but when an interesting "place" and an interesting "project" come together, people gather as if drawn by a magnet. I love watching the process of that slightly nervous expression on a customer's face when they open the door for the first time relaxing through the event.
Because it is a limited space of only four seats, the energy of the people who gather does not disperse; it is tightly concentrated. This is like a "power plant" for restarting adult curiosity.
