Just having one person you can trust helps people keep going

"Is there anyone you can trust?"

If I were asked that,
honestly, I wouldn't be able to think of anyone right away.

I've always been self-conscious about what others think,
and because I have a stutter, there haven't been many people
I could truly feel safe with.

That is precisely why I feel this way now.

For the children,
I want to be an adult they can trust.

It's not that I want to be a 'nice' teacher,
but a teacher they feel they can consult when they are in trouble.

I want to be someone they think,
'Maybe I'll talk to the teacher about this.'

Once, I took on a 15-kilometer marathon challenge
together with my students.

I ran with them from the practice sessions,
and we finished the race together to the very end.

While encouraging them,
we saw the same scenery and spent the same time together.

Perhaps because of that experience,
I still have a good relationship with that child today.

Of course, I don't think that is the only reason.

But the time we spent working hard together
might have led to a sense of security,
the feeling that 'this teacher is on my side.'

I believe that 'trust' is
nothing extraordinary.

・First, listen to what they have to say
・Accept them without judgment
・Have casual, everyday conversations

I believe that such daily accumulation
builds the sense of security that comes from thinking,
'I feel comfortable being with this person.'

In education, teaching academics is certainly important.

But just as much as that,
having one person they can trust
also empowers a child.

That is why I listen to the children's stories
and value our casual, everyday conversations.

I believe that this accumulation
will eventually lead to me being a 'teacher they remember when they are in trouble.'
