This is the Crossroads of Fate | Weekly Short-Short Note

　I got lost in the mountains. The path splits in two. Which way leads down the mountain?

　In times like these, you should go in the direction a stick falls. The branch I picked up in the grass is crooked. It's likely to fall to one side. That idea is rejected.

　Let's decide by flipping a coin. Heads for the right path, tails for the left. That's a fifty-fifty chance. But I don't have any coins in my wallet. Could someone please give me change?

　Just then, someone came from behind at the perfect time. I stopped them and got change. Thank you. That person hurried down the mountain.

　I flip the coin. I fail to catch it. I look for it. I can't find it. I have more. I flip another coin. It falls into a mole hole. Another one. I fail to catch it. I flip again. I fail to catch it...

　I'm out of coins. I'm angry at my own clumsiness. I guess this means I shouldn't move from here. I'll be sleeping outdoors tonight.
"Goodnight," I say to the person heading down the mountain.

　Dawn broke.
　Since I'm still just as clumsy as I was yesterday, I decided to stay put and wait for a search party.
