What is Penne?

"What is penne?"
　Grandma asked suddenly.

"It's a type of short pasta. It's shaped like a tube."
　I explained, but Grandma tilted her head.
　Since she said she had never seen it, I went to the library and borrowed a cookbook.

　Perhaps because she has been frequenting the Starbucks that opened in the neighborhood lately and getting used to foreign words, Grandma has a tremendous desire for new knowledge.
"You have two weeks until the return date, so don't rush through it," I said.
　Despite my advice, Grandma began reading the book she borrowed enthusiastically and finished it the next day.

"Penne is tube-shaped pasta. Many have ridges on the surface. The sauce varies by region," she explained fluently. It seems she has become more knowledgeable than me.

"It's boring just looking at it in a book. Let's go see the real thing."
　Since Grandma said that, we headed to an Italian restaurant together.

　As soon as we sat down, Grandma opened the menu.
"Two orders of penne. For the sauce, this one and this one."
　Grandma started choosing a salad.
"Shall we go with this? I'll have the Insalata Campagnola, please."
　It seems it means 'salad of the meadow.' Grandma, when did you learn such technical terms...?

　Before long, the penne and salad were brought to us.
"Oh, so this is the real thing. It looks tastier than in the pictures."

　At that moment, the waiter asked,
"Would you like something to drink?"
"I'll have a blood orange juice. What will you have, Grandma?"
"I'll have red wine... short, no, make it a grande size."

　Her knowledge of Italian cuisine was supposed to be perfect, but her way of ordering was in her usual Starbucks style, and on top of that, she was quite the heavy drinker.
