"Nui-chan. Today is our date, right?"
"Yeah, that's right. Su-kun, you just confirmed that earlier, didn't you?"

　I am a person in charge at a culinary magazine, and Anui-sensei is a culinary inventor. At work, we call each other Sensei and Suzuki-kun, but on dates, we call each other Nui-chan and Su-kun. It's hard to believe, but we are dating.

"You said you wanted me to join you for sea fishing, but why here?"
"Because the sea is deepest around here."
　The sea is deep? What on earth is she planning to catch?

"Even so, it's freezing. I feel like I'm going to freeze even with my down coat on."
"This temperature is just right for preserving the fish I catch."
　There's an ominous vibe here. This is definitely not a date.

"Nui-chan. This is actually work, isn't it?"
"No, it's not. I'm just catching deep-sea fish for ingredients while we're on our date."
　Is there such a thing as 'just' doing that? It must be an occupational hazard to connect everything to sourcing ingredients.

　I thought about making a snarky comment, but I stopped myself. Nui-chan was that kind of person. Once she sets her mind on something, she goes straight for it. And that's what's cute about her.

"What are you aiming for?"
"A coelacanth."
"No way. That's an endangered species! It's prohibited under the Washington Convention."
"It'll be fine as long as I don't get caught."
　I don't want to turn Nui-chan into a criminal. I have to persuade her.

"Let's give up on deep-sea fish. Let's go for coastal fish."
"No. I might reconsider if you give me a gold bar."
"I don't have the budget for a gold bar. Let's have a banquet instead."
"That sounds good. We can have a drink with the coelacanth we catch!"
"That's why I said no!"

　I don't know how many times we went back and forth with 'coelacanth, no' and 'coelacanth, no.' But somehow, she gave up on the fishing.

　We went to a Ringo Sheena concert, and afterwards, we talked about all sorts of things until the night turned into dawn while poking at some mahi-mahi with our chopsticks at an izakaya.

　Dates with Nui-chan are always like this. She has such a strong personality. But I love her for that.
