　The man had no past.

　Having lost his memory in an accident, the man wished to fill the void of his past. Just then, an employee from the "Memory Bank" visited him. They asked him to inherit the memories of a deceased registrant.

　The fragments of memory presented were all dazzlingly bright.
　The scent of roses blooming in a garden, the vows exchanged by the seaside. A wealthy family, meeting a best friend, a passionate love, and success at a young age.
　Even though they were not his own memories, the man gasped at their sheer vividness—a record of a perfect life that anyone would envy.

“If I could fill the void with memories like these...”

　However, the man closed the documents with trembling hands and quietly renounced the inheritance. Those memories were so "expensive" that they were subject to a massive inheritance tax. If he accepted everything, his future life would be nothing but debt and bankruptcy.

　The man smiled gently and said,

“I don't want to throw away my future for the sake of the past. I've decided to create my own memories from now on, tax-free.”
