Taking a walk with ChatGPT o3/o4

Recently, I have been enjoying a new habit. It involves occasionally using voice input to talk to ChatGPT o3/o4 on my smartphone while I go for a walk. I have started a routine where I walk along the river, inputting questions or thoughts that pop into my head just as they are, and then checking the responses again once I get home.

That said, walking while looking at your phone is dangerous, so I am a voice input person. When I use voice input, it just sounds like I am talking to myself to people around me. So, to avoid being seen as a suspicious person, I only use voice input discreetly in places where there are few people.

The ChatGPT Plus plan allows for 100 uses of o4-mini-high per day, so I usually use that. Occasionally, when I want a deep analysis of a difficult problem, I switch to o3. Also, if you want everyday topics summarized in an easy-to-understand way, I recommend GPT-4o.

The trick is to input everything, whether it is casual chatter or deep analysis. For example, if you have a trip planned, you can just throw out, 'I'm going to such-and-such place,' and start walking. ChatGPT will then reply with things like, 'There are these tourist spots there,' and the conversation continues with things like, 'Then try planning an itinerary for me.'

Actually, I was having a conversation like that today, and it even provided a map based on my itinerary, so I thought it was quite convenient. By the way, when I checked later, the map was significantly wrong. You should not over-rely on AI.

Also, the moments when I get hints from perspectives I wouldn't normally think of are fun. The more you throw things at it without worrying about the content, the higher the probability that unexpected ideas will come back, so it is a good idea to try it out casually at home as well.

These conversations remain in your history like footprints. When you get home and scroll through the screen, you might find that your thoughts for the day are in chronological order, and you might even encounter things you hadn't noticed before.

While re-reading yesterday's exchange, I decided on the next theme, thinking, 'Then let's dig deeper into this today,' and the history gradually accumulates. Due to the April 2025 update,ChatGPT can now refer to chat history, so the scope of its application will likely expand even further in the future.

If there is a day when you feel stuck and cannot move forward, please try leaving the house for a change of pace. Your destination can be a park, a station, or anywhere. Try speaking to ChatGPT, even if it is just about the weather at first.

By the time you return, you might have one new idea. You are just walking and inputting monologues or analysis, yet you come up with new ideas—why not try experiencing that mysterious sensation for yourself?
