Reading Log Vol. 21 | Tove Jansson's 'Moominvalley Quotes Series 1: Words of Snufkin'
Freedom is not born from worship
"If you worship someone too much, you won't be able to gain true freedom."
These are Snufkin's words.
I don't think admiring someone is a bad thing in itself.
However, the moment you put that person on a pedestal, your own judgment stops.
It's not that you "must not rest," but rather "I'm doing this because I want to."
That level of distance is probably just right.
You only need one important thing
For me, it's the harmonica.
Maybe it's the ukulele and kazoo.
If I have one thing, I can live happily.
This time, I honestly admired that kind of lightness.
Don't make anything too big
"If I feel like it, I'll go home. Maybe I won't go home, and I'll go somewhere else instead."
Even if his coffee pot is washed away in the river, Snufkin doesn't panic.
"I'll just eat pancakes."
Being happy with what you have right now.
I've been trying to be conscious of that kind of lightness lately.
By the way, I took a personality test the other day and I was a "Campaigner (ENFP-T)."
Free, social, and apparently good at finding small happinesses.
No wonder I was drawn to Snufkin.

In the dragon-like clouds, spinning around, walking along.
