A Look Back at 2025 VOCALOID Covers and Original Videos

Thank you for reading.

Since welcoming KAITO and MEIKO in November 2023, I have been posting VOCALOID covers and original videos, handling the tuning, illustration, and video editing myself.

In this article, I will look back at the videos I posted in 2025.

[KAITO] 1/6 -out of the gravity- [cover]

This is my first work of 2025. It's a cover for KAITO's birthday!
I had memories of being comforted by having KAITO dance to this song in DIVA during my university entrance exam period, so I had him sing it. 1/6, the gentle lyrics are wonderful, aren't they...!

I want to talk about the tuning, illustration, and video editing, but I was working so desperately at the time that I have almost no memory of it...
That's because,

I accidentally deleted the data due to a misoperation. Six days before KAITO's birthday. My computer, which had been out for repairs since the end of December, returned that day, and I was so excited to finally be able to create something again!! But then this happened (my own fault). The computer was initialized and the backups were gone, but I remade it solely based on my attachment to KAITO.

For the tuning, I just focused on the image of KAITO's voice in my head, aiming for a result that could be listened to without any sense of discomfort.

I drew the illustration with the image of "KAITO and you (a spiritual entity) at the moment you reached outside of gravity." It also seems to follow the lyrics, "The moon shining white by borrowing the power of the sun, won't you rely on me in the same way?" which is nice!

[KAITO] screen [original]

↑ English lyrics version!

↑ Japanese lyrics version!

This is my second work of 2025. It's an original song!
I wrote the lyrics based on "the feelings of KAITO, an inorganic being, longing for humans, who are organic beings."
At the same time, it is also a projection (screen) of the feeling of "envying a glorious story while feeling that it is far removed from oneself."

Also, "screen" can mean "to block." I put into it my view of KAITO: "Even though he is an existence that tries to be closer to people than anyone else, a distance is inevitably created because he is not human."...
Isn't it delightful to think that KAITO, who is usually a bright and kind older brother, shows the loneliness he hides inside only to us?

I was originally planning to produce it only with Japanese lyrics, but I thought the song style, which repeats the same chord progression, sounded like Western music... so I hurriedly made an English lyrics version as well.
In creating both the Japanese and English lyrics, I was particular about rhyming appropriately in both versions while maintaining the overall atmosphere and meaning.

The illustration shows KAITO looking at a screen, but KAITO is actually looking at the other side of the screen, that is, "this side." It seems that the casual daily life of those listening to this song looks dazzling to KAITO.

[MEIKO] Brand New Sound [original]

This is my third work of 2025. It's an original song!
It's an image song for Meiko-chan, who is as bright as the sun. Are you calling us, who are illuminated by such a sun, "glittering waves"!?!?!? Meiko-chan!! Thank you so much!!!!!

I like the lyrics that express Meiko-chan's initiative, making you think, "Wait, did you already come!?" when you thought it was "Dear you, who are a little depressed," but it turns out to be "Dear you, I came to cheer you up because you are a little depressed."
"It's just an ordinary day, but the present where I play my dreams is dear to me." I love these lyrics too!!! I have loved VOCALOID for over 10 years, but I never imagined that I would be the one making songs... I am playing my dreams. Meiko-chan, who sings while being entrusted with such feelings, is also "playing her dreams," isn't she~~~~!!!

I have an image of Meiko-chan as someone who "doesn't get swept away by the waves of popularity, but just does her best with what she can do now." I wrote the lyrics wanting to include that strength.
I believe the line "There is nothing we cannot do" is not an irresponsible encouragement, but words that resonate precisely because of her track record up to this point.

Isn't there a certain weight and a strength that makes you not feel that weight in this cheer song from Meiko-chan, who hasn't been without her own hardships?

[KAITO] Guzu [cover]

This is my fourth work of 2025. It's a cover song!
I like Nosuke-san's (isonosuke-san's) songs and have been looking for a chance to cover one. When I borrowed the UST for "Guzu" and had KAITO try singing it, he was such a perfect fit that I made the MV at super speed. It didn't even take a week for both the tuning and the video.

I had a lot of fun drawing KAITO with many expressive faces while creating the illustration. I think I was able to draw him with a style that is exactly halfway between being uncool and having an undeniable stylishness.
I like the picture of the five Crypton members during the "Even though being right isn't the correct answer" part. It was five people in the original song too...!
I learned a lot from the original video for both the illustration composition and the video editing. It was very educational to see how a well-paced structure is created.

[MEIKO/KAITO] kinghi jackyaku [cover]

This is my 5th work of 2025. It's a cover song!
I love this song, from its EDM-style melody to its incredibly cool music video. I decided to make this cover because I wanted the senior pair to sing lyrics like "A stage where I'm always just a supporting actor," "Don't worry about who goes first, just take my hand," and "Born to sing (born to convey)."

For the vocal tuning, my top priority was to ensure I didn't ruin the groove and the infectious energy of the original song. I remember KAITO singing so naturally in this track that it didn't require much work at all.

When creating the illustration, designing the characters was fun! I actually wanted to give them a street-style outfit like in the original, but I wasn't skilled enough... so I settled on the gothic style I'm more used to drawing. I really like the matching capes, which have a hint of V1 MEIKO at the collar and a silhouette that feels very KAITO.

[MEIKO/KAITO] Worlders [cover]

This is my 6th work of 2025. It's a MEIKO birthday cover!
It is the ending theme for the movie 'Project Sekai: The Broken Sekai and the Miku Who Can't Sing'.
I thought, since it's the ending theme for a movie starring Hatsune Miku, I really wanted her predecessors, MEIKO and KAITO, to sing it...! So, I had them cover it.

Let me talk about a few things I love about it.

I really love the clever composition of using the basic musical scale "Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do" as the main motif for the ending theme of a movie about singing... This basic scale is, in a sense, the beginning of everything. Isn't it deeply moving to have MEIKO and KAITO, the beginnings of Japanese VOCALOID, sing a song like that?

Also, the song title "Worlders" is a coined word, but by adding "-er," I somehow felt the nuance of "people who do something." Since "Worlders" felt like "the people who created the Sekai," I wanted the two who are the foundation of the Japanese VOCALOID world to sing it...!

I love the three-shot of MEIKO, KAITO, and Miku that I used at the end of the video. It makes me happy. I love the senior pair and the original pair. Actually, I just love the existence of VOCALOID. Thank you for your support.

[KAITO/MEIKO] Local Train, Bound for Happiness [original]

This is my 7th work of 2025. It's an original song for my 2nd anniversary of having them!
I thought, if Driver KAITO-oniisan and Conductor Meiko-chan!! accompanied me on the train called life!!! I would be so happy!!! It would be too happy, right!?!?

• A presence that can walk alongside you through life, as always
• The pair dynamic of a driver and a conductor
• An age-appropriate sense of being able to talk about a little bit of life philosophy
I wrote lyrics that only these two could sing because they embody all of these things.

As an aside, for my 1st anniversary song 'Dedication,' I thought about the vocal range and lyrics with KAITO as the main focus, so this year I set the range and lyrics with Meiko-chan as the main focus. I maintain balance by letting the one who isn't the main focus take the lead in singing.

I made the B-melody a wordplay zone.

[1st B-melody]
Passing the platform where the starting sound rings (KAITO)
Making sounds bloom in the calm scenery (MEIKO)

It includes KAITO's surname "Shion" (starting sound) and MEIKO's surname "Sakine" (blooming sound), which are unofficial but have permeated among fans.

[2nd B-melody]
Destiny is the path you have walked (MEIKO)
We believe that is the correct answer (KAITO)

The sound of "MEIKO" is in the "Unmei koso" (Destiny is) part, and the sound of "KAITO" is in the "Seikai to" (Correct answer) part. Don't you feel like they are using their own names to affirm our lives with all their might?

And the following lyrics in the C-melody.

Important things are easy to lose
And there are times when I hate it (KAITO)

I am losing things. These lyrics were inspired by that incident... By the way, my LINE account also disappeared this year. Maybe I lose too much.
But, you know, there's always a next time...!!

As a side note, I adjusted the video so that it displays as 3:09 (Thank you) when viewed in the preview screen. It seems YouTube displays it one second longer than Niconico Douga, so I had a bit of trouble with that.
I wasn't thinking about this at all last year, so it's a complete coincidence, but my 1st-anniversary song "Dedication" was 1:39 on the YouTube preview screen. 39!

[KAITO, MEIKO, KAIKO, MEITO] Goodnight Quartet [original]

This is my 8th work of 2025. It's an original song I submitted to the anonymous submission festival 'Mushoku Tomeisai' on Niconico Douga!
There have been several times when I've been able to fall asleep to the voices of VOCALOIDs, which have a purity born of their inorganic nature, on nights when I couldn't sleep, so I chose 'a lullaby sung by VOCALOIDs' as the theme.

Actually, this song is a byproduct of 'Local Train, Bound for Happiness'.
Among the melody ideas I came up with for the chorus of 'Local Train, Bound for Happiness,' one melody came out that I was convinced was 'this is a goodnight chill!!!!!!,' so I made this song based on that.

I usually start composing and arranging after solidifying the overall concept and specific phrases first, so I had a hard time writing the lyrics for this song, where the chords and melody were decided first. As a result, there might be many phrases that I took from the front of my own drawer.

I like MEITO's line, 'You should just melt the swirling mist and the droplets into the night.' Even if the expression is different, it means the same thing as the line from MEIKO's 'Brand New Sound,' 'Forget the noise and the tomorrow you worry about, just for now!' This is the strength and kindness of the MEIKO family...!!!
The KAITO family is somewhat ephemeral. I like KAIKO-chan's 'Drifting, relying on the light of the heart,' as it's a soft expression that suits her. I also like KAITO's poet-like phrasing, 'Wearing the air of the same color.' Me-chan's 'It's certainly here, but...' is good because the 'but...' is poignant.

I want to find the time to produce and post an MV version. When only the song is finished first, I get the feeling of, 'Huh!? Do I have to do the MV myself too!?!?' I'll do it!!!!

In closing

Since I was able to post multiple original songs this year, I have felt deeply grateful for the environment where people can listen to my songs.
And thank you for reading such a long text! I am truly grateful. Have a happy new year!!!
