✏️I want to draw the atmosphere - Stories born from lonely times -
《Creation comes from lonely times》
Last time, I wrote an article titled
“The question of whether you can really reset your human relationships.”
⬇️This is that article❣️
I wrote about how a friend I used to hang out with frequently unilaterally reset our relationship.
At the time, I suddenly had a gaping hole of “lonely” time, and I didn't know what to do with it.
So, I just started drawing manga in a regular notebook with a pencil.
I realized it after I started drawing.
That while I'm drawing manga,
that “loneliness” turns into
“comfortable silence”
I realized that.
It was a feeling I couldn't have even when I drew manga before.
“This is... good...!!✨”
Drawing manga is basically a lonely task.
But recently, I've started to think that precisely because of that lonely time, I might be able to express an “atmosphere where the reader can take a deep breath!”
And, the time before last, I wrote an article introducing the manga I love (the manga that ruined my life).
⬇️That article❣️
While I was writing the introductions for those wonderful manga, I suddenly thought,
“What is it that I want to draw?”
And that question popped into my head.
So, I decided to think about it for a bit!
1️⃣ "Comfortable" Manga
When I draw manga, I focus for hours and
immerse myself in the world of that manga alone.
That is what happens.
When I do that,
I realized that if the world of the manga I am drawing
is not "comfortable" for me,
I cannot keep drawing it.
This is, of course,
just comfort for me.
But if someone who reads my manga
feels the same "comfort" as I do...
I would be incredibly happy!
2️⃣ I want children to read it too
Embarrassingly enough,
I haven't really had a strong desire to
"draw this kind of manga" until now...💧
The reason I started drawing in my current style
was because the desire to read it to children,
like reading a picture book aloud,
welled up inside me.
But now,
I aim to create manga that can be enjoyed
by both adults and children!
3️⃣ I want to draw the "atmosphere"
I don't have a foundation of technical skills.
So, I'm too embarrassed to
say anything too grand,
but recently,
I have come to want to draw
what I call "atmosphere."
It relates to the "comfort"
I mentioned at the beginning, but...
—What is the atmosphere I want to draw in manga?—
When you turn the page,
the atmosphere of that world gently drifts toward you...
There are characters, there is scenery,
and a story is flowing quietly there...
The reader,
before they know it, enters that place,
and spends a little time in that world...
Let's see,
if I were to put it simply,
it's that clear, soft world
you find when you gently open a picture book.
(That's not simple at all...😅)
I want to draw manga where you can feel
that kind of picture-book-like "atmosphere"❣️
Alright!!
Someday, to be able to draw that air
with a quality I can be satisfied with,
I will cherish
and nurture my solitude,
and I will grow—!!
