Nights when the warmth of a futon is precious
It has suddenly turned cold since last night.
Even with a summer-weight down comforter, a blanket, and a wearable blanket layered on top, I am still cold.
My husband came up to the bedroom later, carrying a winter-weight down comforter in his arms.
"It's so cold. I don't have enough blankets."
As I curled up into a ball and grumbled, he tossed the summer-weight down comforter he had been using over me.
"I'll wash the cover and put it away tomorrow, so just sleep with that tonight."
The scent of my husband tickled my nose.
"What about you?"
"I'm using this one."
He said, "Let me set this down for a second," and placed the fluffy winter comforter over me.
It's so warm.
"What about the cover?"
"I'm putting it on now."
As he spread the duvet cover he had taken from the drawer onto the bed, he heartlessly stripped the comforter off me.
The ambient temperature dropped several degrees in an instant, and I let out a cry.
"So cold!"
I pulled my four layers of bedding closer, curled up my legs, and thought.
I'll switch to my winter comforter tomorrow, too.
It has become a season where the warmth of a futon is precious.

I am participating in Rin Kiki's wonderful project.
Today, the second day, is "warmth."
