In Situations That Cannot Be Changed, What Can Be Changed Is 'Thought'
People who can look forward to tomorrow are happy people.
Thanks to having places to go, exciting plans, or feeling needed and happy, people can feel that life is worth living.
I once wrote that 'whether or not one has a disability, people must make an effort, and I have learned that one can become happy as a result of that effort.'
I think it is a fact that if you have a disability, you have to go through hardships that ordinary people do not.
Many people with disabilities have felt the difficulty of living because of their disability. The question is, isn't it whether or not you perceive that as an unfortunate event?

I feel there are two ways to perceive misfortune.
One is thinking of yourself as unfortunate. It is deciding that if you didn't have a disability, you wouldn't have had such painful or sad experiences, and concluding that you are such a pitiful person.
The other is others thinking of you as unfortunate. It is being judged as pitiable for having a disability, or being seen as a very pitiful person.
These two differ in terms of who is doing the thinking.
Is it you or someone else who thinks it is a misfortune?
I believe it is more painful when you think of yourself as unfortunate. This is because no one can escape from themselves.
Not being able to escape means that the situation cannot be changed.
In situations that cannot be changed, what can be changed is 'thought'.
Even if the situation surrounding you does not change at all, if you can change your thinking, your feelings will become much lighter.
How do you feel about the events that have occurred?
Since how you feel is a matter of sensibility, it is difficult to change, but depending on how you accept it after feeling it, whether you are happy now will differ.

Isn't there a way of thinking that makes you feel better if you accept things in this way?
When something painful happens, I don't think that it will never happen again. Surely, something similar will happen again. I prepare my heart for that time.
Some people might be able to overcome a situation by thinking that it is a once-in-a-lifetime event. However, I currently try to think of it as practice to prepare my feelings so that I will be okay no matter what happens next. Then, I don't feel too weighed down. Since it is practice, it is okay if it doesn't go well. I spoil myself by thinking in that way.
If you don't aim for perfection, you will be satisfied with yourself for coping in your own way.
This sense of satisfaction leads to a sense of happiness.
No matter what others think of you, if you can affirm yourself, that is enough.
