HIEN Aero Technologies × Gifu Air Festival: Exclusive Paper Craft!

Hello, everyone! This is the official account of HIEN Aero Technologies.

Our mission is to "revive and pass on to the next generation the Japanese skills of 'designing, building, and flying aircraft' through eVTOL technology." We are a startup developing domestically produced, scalable hybrid eVTOLs.

We are pleased to announce our participation in the Gifu Air Festival 2024! At our booth, we will display the actual prototype of the Dr-One V1, which achieved Asia's first hybrid-powered hover test. Additionally, we will distribute mini Dr-One paper crafts at the venue.

This paper craft is designed to fly properly (important). You can display it or fly it. Why not try building your own next-generation hybrid eVTOL? Here, we provide instructions on how to assemble it.

1. Materials and Preparation

  • Template

  • Craft knife

  • Glue

The Dr-One fits on a single A4 sheet!

2. Cut out all parts from the template

After cutting, ensure all parts are present.

3.On the upper part of the fuselage, cut the glue tabs along the lines up to the red line and fold them valley-fold

This step shapes the fuselage.

4.Attach the main wing to the fuselage, starting from the front

Apply glue and align from the leading edge of the wing.

At this point, align the fuselage opening with the guide lines on the main wing. It's okay if the rear of the fuselage is closed.

The center line on the main wing serves as a guide. Align the left and right edges of the fuselage accordingly.

5.Fold the spar and vertical stabilizer in half (mountain fold) and fold the glue tabs valley-fold

Keep the spar in a V-shape without fully gluing it together.

6.Attach the spar to the underside of the main wing along the guide lines

Ensure the logo on the vertical stabilizer faces outward.

7.Fold the glue tabs of the horizontal stabilizer mountain-fold

The logo should be on the top surface.

Apply glue to the outer sides and attach it to the inner sides of the vertical stabilizer.

Form a triangle with the horizontal stabilizer and spar when attaching.

It's starting to look like an airplane!

From here, if you want to fly the model, proceed to 8.a. If you want to display it, proceed to 8.b.

8.a. Place the triangular weights on the nose

There are nine weights provided. Start with eight, and if the plane tends to climb, add the ninth.

Note: The attachment of the horizontal stabilizer significantly affects flight. If the weight doesn't stabilize the flight, adjust the horizontal stabilizer.

8.b.1 Attach the motors and propellers

The gray rectangles represent the motors.

Mountain-fold the gray rectangular parts along the dotted lines. There are guide lines inside the spar; apply glue and attach accordingly.

8.b.2 Attach the propellers to the motors attached in step B-1

Be mindful of the clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) propellers. Adjacent propellers should have opposite rotation directions. Twisting the propellers slightly adds to the realism.
