The Reality Administrative Scriveners Should Know Before Starting Inheritance Work.
This article is a note money pickup article.
Administrative scriveners have many areas of expertise, but among those considering opening their own practice or becoming independent, many may be thinking, "I would like to try inheritance and will work."
After passing the Administrative Scrivener Examination in 2023, I worked at a judicial scrivener corporation and an administrative scrivener corporation specializing in inheritance, where I was in charge of everything from
responding to inquiries → interviews → contracts to subsequent administrative procedures.
Based on that experience, I will talk about the "reality of large professional corporations specializing in inheritance" and the "strategies that individual offices should adopt."
1. The entry point when an inheritance occurs is already secured
There is something that can be said for any industry, not just the inheritance industry.
Companies that can make contact with customers the moment an event occurs are overwhelmingly strong.
In the case of inheritance, the entry points are as follows.
Financial institutions
Major funeral companies
Many large professional corporations specializing in inheritance have already formed partnerships with these companies.
A large number of personnel are also deployed, and a system is built where referrals are made in a natural flow when an inheritance occurs.
As long as this scheme exists, the reality is that it is extremely difficult for an individual office to obtain new interview opportunities after an inheritance occurs.
2. The price difference for inheritance procedures can be more than double
Most people will only experience inheritance procedures two or three times in their lives at most.
Therefore, many customers do not know the "fair price for inheritance procedures."
I have actually seen quotes from individual offices several times, and
there were not a few cases where it was less than half the price of a large corporation.
Of course, there is a reason for the price difference.
Large corporations: Basically all-inclusive type
Individual offices: There are many cases where customers are asked to do some of the work themselves
In other words, the service design itself is different.
I feel that what is important is not to criticize by comparing with other companies, but to clearly communicate the "strengths and roles of your own office."
3. Criticizing other companies leads to a loss of trust
There is something my mentor told me when I was a bank employee.
“Even if you want the contract, never criticize other companies.”
Putting others down does not raise your own value.
Rather, it only invites distrust from the client.
In my experience, competing on the same playing field as major firms in the post-inheritance market is considered quite difficult.
4. What strategy should an individual administrative scrivener take?
I have reached one conclusion.
Get involved as an expert “before inheritance occurs”
Specifically,
Become an expert in supporting the creation of wills
Steadily engage in activities to be appointed as an executor of a will
In other words, the strategy is to
become someone who is chosen “before it happens”rather than “after inheritance occurs.”
This does not have an immediate effect, but
in the long term, the accumulation of trust becomes your greatest weapon.
Summary | Things to consider before starting inheritance work
✔ Major firms are strong in the post-inheritance market
✔ You cannot win through price competition alone
✔ Do not criticize other companies
✔ Specialize in the field of wills and change the “entry point”
I hope this will be of some help to administrative scriveners who aspire to work in inheritance.
