January 2, 2022: Auspicious Tiger Songs to Listen to in the Year of the Tiger

I thought about doing a New Year's drawing, but I just couldn't get into the mood, so
I just fobbed it off with a doodle.

These are Byakko and Torakouryou from the game I spent the most time on last year.

This year is the Year of the Tiger.
I've decided that the first music I listen to every year should be related to the zodiac, but
this is actually quite difficult... haha

So, from my small repertoire,
I'd like to introduce songs that have tiger-related words in their titles.

TIGER / TRANSTIC NERVE

...Oh, there's no video for this one right off the bat.

It's a dark tiger song that was a B-side to OVERHEADRUN.
The low, prowling bass sounds like a tiger growling,
so I only like it once every 12 years.

It's not a very prominent song, so I don't usually listen to it.

Tigerish Eyez / VALSHE

My number one tiger song is this one.
Perfect production that opens with the roar of a tiger.
I can't think of any other song that includes this sound effect.

The song itself is a trance-pop track that really shines with minato's signature style, and I quite like it.
VALSHE is a bit tiger-like, isn't she? In terms of appearance.

TIGER JET SING! / Taiga Fujimura (CV: Miki Ito)

This is a character song for
Taiga Fujimura, the guardian of the game-over screen in [Fate/Stay night].

Just as the song says 'don't call me a tiger,' they are indeed called a tiger.
I suppose it must be scary.
What is this business of calling a maiden a tiger?

……Personally, I think tigers are cute, though.

For example, like a palm-sized tiger.

TIGER SOUL / Babyraids

Since they even titled their album 'Self-Tiger Introduction' (Jiko Shokai),
I wonder if the group had some sort of connection to it?

I don't know the details, but there were quite a few songs I liked.
Since names like Shota Horie and TOTALFAT were in the list of composers,
is it correct to say they were a rock idol group?

TORA TORA TORA / MAX

Um... I wonder what the members of MAX are up to these days.

But the fact that they didn't miss the chance to cover this once-every-12-years Year of the Tiger
shows they are the model of entertainers.

When it became a time when anime songs were hitting the charts,
they also took on a cover of 'A Cruel Angel's Thesis',
and I have a very favorable impression of that attitude.

Come to think of it, there was a song in the visual kei scene that went 'Tora Tora Tora' too...
I don't own it, though.

Tora and Tora / BAND-MAID

Too bad, there's no video for this one either.
BAND-MAID has quite a few novelty songs, perhaps because of their concept,
even though they are serious and cool when they play straight.

I didn't know what to think when they started doing MAND-MAIKO.
Since I prefer Japanese-style, I actually welcomed it.

Tiger's Pride ~Opera The Festival 2010~ / Rokugen Alice

Rokugen Alice is a unit with super individuality that radiates a mysterious vibe no matter what they do,
but when they play around seriously, such serious comedy is born.

Rumor has it that the singers were employees or perhaps the president of Toranoana at the time.
Come to think of it, I wonder if that store is having any sales because it's the Year of the Tiger?

Koshi Tantan / Umetora

Umetora's signature song. Consequently, there are a great many people who cover it.

It has a strong EDM vibe, so personally, I don't listen to it that intently, but
I have five versions in my library: 96neko, Kakichoco x Vivian, Alfakyun, Rib, and Kogeinu.

Koshi Tantan to Tantan to / Kuroki Nagisa

The title is a dad joke, but it's a song that conveys a serious sense of tenacity.
It's cool.

I hope I can do something with tenacity and composure this year as well.
