Fifteenth Night is Fuchagi Day!
Fifteenth Night is Fuchagi Day!
Today, September 29th, is the 15th day of the 8th month in the lunar calendar, which is the Fifteenth Night.
While people outside the prefecture offer moon-viewing dumplings on the Fifteenth Night,
in Okinawa, we offer mochi coated with adzuki beans, called Fuchagi.

There is meaning behind this Fuchagi; the mochi represents the moon, and the adzuki beans represent the stars.
The mochi is the parent, and the adzuki beans are the children and grandchildren, so Fuchagi is coated with adzuki beans,
and the more there are, the more we can hope for the prosperity of our descendants.
In traditional Okinawan households, people would offer flat incense and Fuchagi to the Hinukan and pray:
"Uto-utu, Hinukan-ganashi, today is the Fifteenth Night.
I am offering Fuchagi and praying, please accept it.
Thank you for always watching over our family.
Please continue to watch over us so that our whole family may live healthily and peacefully,
and so that our descendants may prosper."

Also, as for community events, events like giant tug-of-warsare held, and since long ago, this Fifteenth Night has been cherished in various places,
Moon Festival,Moon Worship, or Juguyagami, among other names.

Until a few years ago, I had never thought Fuchagi tasted good,
but after eating the Fuchagi from the parlor in Oroku 1-chome, I came to love it.

Today, when I went to the parlor, they were all lined up,
so I bought 20 of them. They are super delicious ( ´∀` )❤
