July 28, 2025 | The "one and only" piece I found at the Royal Copenhagen flagship store

As a ceramics lover, there was one place I absolutely had to visit when coming to Copenhagen.
That place is the Royal Copenhagen flagship store.

The first thing that caught my eye was the building itself.
Built in 1616 in the Renaissance style, it has survived fires and wars,
and still stands beautifully and solidly in the heart of the city.
I was simply moved by that fact...

The moment I opened the door and stepped inside,
I gasped at the world of plates spreading across the walls.
Everything is hand-painted, and each piece has its own story.
It was so beautiful that I couldn't even move from the spot.

It was as if I had wandered into a forest of plates,
a little heaven for a ceramics lover.

In addition to the iconic Blue Fluted, there was a full lineup of the Christmas plate series,
which has been released every year since 1908.
Seeing the limited-edition designs, made only in that specific year, up close,
made my heart race.

And then, the Flora Danica I had always admired.
Production began in the 1770s, and it is still kept as a treasure of the Danish royal family,
and is apparently still used for state banquets and the like.
I was simply mesmerized by the delicate brushwork that seemed to capture the very life of the plants...

In the back, there was also a fairy tale series.
The "Ugly Duckling," which I loved as a child.
The motif depicting the moment it turns into a swan stayed with me.

Surrounded by beautiful things, I found myself losing track of time.
It was a place I truly felt I wanted to visit again.
