The day I learned about tethering, the world became more fun
After a Wi-Fi issue led me to use "tethering" for the first time in a while, the world became much more fun.
A day to realize that I had been living with limitations simply because I didn't know.
A single small piece of knowledge can expand how you work. I am writing about that moment.

Tragedy | I lost my Wi-Fi
One day.
Suddenly, my home Wi-Fi stopped working.
……It's over.
Restarting didn't help.
Neither did unplugging it.
Petting the router and praying didn't work either.
Anxiety slowly started to well up.
I found out later that the cause was "the connection point of the external power line had become old."
And until the power company worker could come...
For two full days.
My home fell into a state completely without Wi-Fi.
(I really felt like my soul had left my body in this state...)
I tried tethering for the first time in a while, and the world changed
No internet connection.
This is fatal for a freelancer, right?
I thought about whether there was any way, and it suddenly popped into my head.
"...There's tethering!"
But.
The tethering in my memory was...
That old-fashioned way where you connected a PC and a mobile phone with a cord.
Surely, that's not how it's done anymore.
So, I asked my eldest daughter who was next to me how to do it.
"It's 'Personal Hotspot' in the settings."
……That's it?
I tried it with half-doubt, and...It connected in an instant!
Amazing!
It was completely different from the "tethering" I once knew.
"Wait, what? Is it this easy?
Why haven't I been using this until now?"
I blurted out.
To think that my world had been so small just because I "didn't know."
Smartphones are so amazing, aren't they?
(No, I know, I'm realizing this way too late. Haha)
Tethering was a tool for freedom
I know, I really, really know I'm late to the party.
I'm sure everyone already knows this.
But it was so shocking that I'm writing this article despite the embarrassment.
With this tethering...
Can't I work on my PC anywhere?
Lately, I've started carrying my PC around everywhere.
I quickly turn on tethering with a face like I've known how to do it forever.
(The 'pretending to know' vibe is strong. Haha)
For example,
● Waiting time for a three-way parent-teacher conference
● Inside the shop while waiting for my car's winter tire change
● A little bit of spare time before a meeting
That "time where I couldn't do anything" suddenly turned into time where I could write.
My children laugh at me, saying,
"Just because you learned it recently, you're doing it too much outside (lol)"
But that's fine.
Because it's fun.
Learning new things expands the world so much.

How to tether on an iPhone
I know.
I know that everyone has already mastered tethering.
But.
I want to leave a note on how to tether so I don't forget.
① Open iPhone "Settings" → "Personal Hotspot"
② Turn ON "Allow Others to Join"
※ It's a good idea to change the "Wi-Fi Password" to something simple here.
③ Select your iPhone from the Wi-Fi list on your PC
→ Enter the "Wi-Fi Password" from ②
※ Once you enter the password, it will connect automatically from the next time.
That's it.
It's over.
……See?
It's surprisingly easy, right?
Summary | Fun expands from small "knowledge"
"Knowing" is fun.
And young people really know everything.
Lately, I've just been having them teach me things.
This kind of "cross-generational information exchange" is important, isn't it?
I'll keep asking them to teach me a lot.
Because,my world keeps expanding.
I learned about tethering, and I also learned that I can write anywhere.
More freely, more easily.
