A story about how I went to a May'n concert for the first time in a while and had a great time
Introduction
Recently, I attended a May'n concert for the first time since October 2019.
From around 2011 to 2014, I used to go to May'n's concerts so often that I didn't care if they were overseas, but after that, I started working and going to other venues, so I didn't show my face as much.
I wrote this article because I thought it was incredibly fun to go after such a long time, and I realized I had never written about the appeal of May'n's concerts.
With that said, I would like to explain the appeal of May'n's concerts as I see it.
Appeal 1: Singing so good that you won't be satisfied with CD recordings
I think this is a common sentiment among 'Buin' (May'n's hardcore fans), but there are quite a lot of people who rarely listen to CD recordings. Especially after hearing them live once.
You might be thinking, 'Huh? What do you mean?', but it's because the live singing is so amazing that you won't be satisfied with the CD recordings anymore. I've seen the phrase 'CD-quality vocals from the throat' on Nico Nico Douga in the past, but this person's voice is incomparable to the CD recording when live. She is seriously a great singer.
Belief is a song that is incredibly hype, even for a relatively recent one (though I thought it was recent, it's already been 6 years...). (If you've never heard it, it's only a minute and a half, so please watch the video above.)
Please try listening to it live at least once. It's seriously a different experience.
And!!!!! Belief is on the setlist for this tour!!!!
Appeal 2: A space where you can enjoy yourself freely
What left an impression on me when I went after such a long time was that everyone was enjoying themselves in their own way.
Less than half the people were watching the concert waving glow sticks; there were people jumping, people copying the choreography, people (like me, since I didn't know some of the songs) just standing still and listening to the music even during intense songs, and occasionally people lighting up UOs (or more accurately, high-intensity glow sticks) during the final chorus. Seeing everyone enjoying themselves freely made me realize that I hadn't seen a scene like this in a while...
There are no rules! There is only etiquette!
If you've been to a May'n concert, you'll know that May'n always says these words.
In a time where many recent concert venues prohibit UOs and jumping, I felt that it's rare to find a venue where there are no rules, but everyone still enjoys themselves while maintaining moderation.
Of course, you should follow the rules set by the organizers, and I think it's incredibly lame for people to go out of their way to talk about breaking them on Twitter or elsewhere. However, I don't think it's right to deny how others enjoy themselves just because you don't personally like it, even if they are enjoying themselves within the rules.
That said, it doesn't mean you can do whatever you want; it's all based on the premise that everyone follows etiquette so as not to cause trouble for others.
In conclusion
What made me happiest about the May'n concert was that, even though many venues have had their regulations change significantly after the COVID-19 pandemic, I was able to see a concert that was exactly the same as before, except for the fact that we couldn't use our voices.
I learned how to jump at Nana Mizuki's concerts, and I discovered the joy of copying choreography at Sphere's.
Recently, it's become common at many venues for everyone to have penlights like King Blades (I don't think that's a bad thing). I think people who went to concerts around 2010, like Animelo Summer Live, might see a scene that feels a bit nostalgic. Back then, there were no King Blades, and everyone was jumping, right?
She still sings songs from Macross F, so I think it's worth going just for that.
In a previous article, I wrote a little about the difference between streaming concerts and live concerts at the venue, and I truly believe May'n is someone whose appeal is best conveyed by seeing her perform live at the venue.
And above all, I believe it is definitely better for the scene to have 10 people go to a concert once than for me alone to go 10 times.
If you are interested, please buy a ticket for a concert venue near you!! I don't think you'll regret it!!!

What? You don't know the songs? You can enjoy it even if you don't know them, and I went without listening to almost any of the new songs, but I enjoyed the new songs too, so it's fine!!
You don't know the songs, but you can just groove along, or you can stand still while everyone else is jumping during the intense songs. There are no rules, after all.
I hope this article conveys the appeal of May'n's concerts to even one more person. See you later.
