Things You Can Do Starting Today to Protect Your Future Self
Yesterday, I attended Tomoko-san's Preventive Medicine Seminar.
Preventive medicine is a future-oriented approach to health that focuses on "maintaining your body daily so you don't get sick" rather than waiting until you are already unwell.
I used to think that aging and poor health were inevitable, but I was struck by the idea that the speed and symptoms of these issues can be changed through lifestyle habits.
What left the biggest impression on me was the phrase, "It's okay to be lazy."
When we hear about health, we tend to imagine intense exercise or strict dietary restrictions, but that's not the case.
• Small adjustments to your diet
• Light care you can do in your daily life
• Awareness of the signs of minor ailments
Knowing I could start with just these things helped me relax.
I had convinced myself that my own fatigue and stiff shoulders were "just something I had to live with," but learning that these are actually significant signs changed my perspective.
Instead of "going to the hospital after I feel terrible," there are many things I can do starting today to "build a body that doesn't get to that point."
In particular, what I want to incorporate after this seminar is a review of my eating habits.
• Being mindful of getting enough vitamins and minerals
• Being careful not to consume too much wheat or sugar
• Cooking fried foods at home as much as possible to avoid oxidized oils
Shifting little by little toward a diet that my body enjoys.
This feels like something I can continue for a long time without strain.
And what I felt once again this time is the
power of habits
. Small choices where you think, "It's fine for today," will add up to a big difference over many years. Conversely, even the smallest good habits, if accumulated in the same way, can significantly change your future. Your body is a vehicle you only get one of in your lifetime, and you cannot trade it in. To keep that vehicle running well for a long time, I want to continue protecting my future self by incorporating the knowledge of preventive medicine into my life.
Tomoko-san, thank you for another wonderful learning experience.
The "SHINE Interview" article where I previously interviewed Tomoko-san is packed with the origins of her work and moving experiences with her clients.
That content is still very much alive, and it is a special piece of writing that gives me energy every time I read it.
If you also feel like you want to put your own origins and thoughts into words, or want to clarify the future you are heading toward, please consider having a SHINE interview.
It will surely be the catalyst that makes your life shine even brighter✨
