[4-Year-Old Parenting Diary] Successfully Solved Our Troubles with the "God-Tier" Toothbrushing App "Pokémon Smile"!

Hello! I'm Haruaki Papa.
I'm a dad currently on a one-year paternity leave,
raising two sisters, aged 4 and 0.

Today's topic is about children's "toothbrushing."

My 4-year-old eldest daughter follows a style of:
・Brushing her own teeth
・Having Mom or Dad finish up
which she does every morning and night, but...

Among all our daily tasks, this was by far

hating to brush teeth, tending to put it off

a challenge we faced...

However, by introducing a "God-tier app,"
we succeeded in resolving this issue!

Today, I would like to share that success story.

⬛︎ My eldest daughter's "aversion" to toothbrushing

Until now, I had been asking her to brush her teeth after breakfast and dinner,

👧 "Ugh, it's such a hassle..."

She wouldn't brush her teeth right away, often putting it off
until she finished playing with other things,
and she had a real aversion to toothbrushing.

Thinking about it calmly,
・She has never suffered from cavities before
・She can't play while brushing, so it's boring
there are absolutely no benefits to brushing her teeth
from my daughter's perspective.

I have always tried to explain the fear of getting cavities
through picture books and stories, but
she doesn't really feel it, and she hasn't understood the importance.

One day, while I was wondering what to do,
among the flyers I got from daycare,
there was an ad that led to the solution...

⬛︎ Found a God-tier App!

The flyer included was an advertisement for an app called
Pokémon Smile
.

It is an app that uses the smartphone's front-facing camera so that children can watch themselves brushing their teeth while Pokémon brush along with them on the screen.

Since a guide is displayed showing which part of the mouth to brush, they can imitate it to brush all their teeth thoroughly.

Along the way, Pokémon covered in cavity bacteria appear, so you work hard at brushing to defeat the bacteria, and finally catch the cleaned-up Pokémon! You keep increasing your collection of friends.

When you finish brushing, you can get stickers and items like hats to wear while brushing within the app.

There is also a fun feature where you can choose your favorite photos from the child's brushing session, which were randomly taken by the front camera while brushing, and decorate them with stickers!

⬛︎ The Daily Toothbrushing Scene Has Completely Changed!

My eldest daughter only knew about Pikachu when it came to Pokémon, so I was skeptical about whether she would be interested, but...

Since she can brush her teeth with Pikachu as her partner from the start, she enjoyed brushing her teeth!

It seems she enjoys catching new Pokémon every day and putting on stickers,

👧 "Who is this??"
👧 "It's Eevee! So cute!"
👧 "I put on lots of stickers!"
She is hooked and eager to do it!

Since introducing it, she has started declaring that she will brush her teeth every morning and night,
making it her top priority after meals, and doing it on her own!
I am so incredibly grateful...!

"I can't play while I'm brushing my teeth, it's boring."
This god-tier app transformed that problem into
"I can enjoy brushing my teeth while playing."
a form that makes it fun.

I wish I had introduced it sooner...!
I think that now, and my
problems with toothbrushing have dropped to zero.

Since my child didn't originally know Pokémon,
I had a preconceived notion that
they might not enjoy it even if I introduced it...
but that thought ended up being a groundless fear.
