Mecha Arts 01 Crow (Bell Ganka) #3 - Surface Finishing

I am currently taking on a project to finish this in 10 days for a competition.

So, here is the kit I am working on.

I am building this to participate in the 'YBK 10-Day Competition 2026' hosted by YouTuber YBK Modeling.

Day 2

Before starting work on Day 2. These are all the parts.

Filling the shoulder holes

There are noticeable hollow spots on the shoulders.
The top half of this is a part connection hole, so I only want to fill the horizontal section on the bottom half. However, because of the shape, it's a hassle, so I will proceed by filling the horizontal part first and then re-drilling the top hole to restore it.

I will try filling this hole with pieces of plastic cut from the runner. For gaps that aren't completely filled, I will push in plastic scraps softened with liquid cement to fill them.

Torso assembly and pilot post-assembly installation

I am sanding down the areas where I applied instant glue to fill sink marks the previous day.

The torso is split into front and back halves. It is assembled by sandwiching the pilot part.
The fit of these torso parts is quite tight, making it difficult to push them all the way in.

Therefore, I cut the torso pins shorter and used nippers on the peg holes to reduce the tightness. This allows them to be pushed all the way in.

It looks like this.
Since it went all the way in, the bottom of the torso is perfectly aligned, but there is a slight gap in the seam at the top.

I will fill the gap with putty.
I was unsure about the gap on the inside, but since it will be covered and hidden by the top part with the head attached, I decided to skip it.

Also, I will make the pilot a post-assembly part, considering the color separation.
I just need to cut off the small catch on the back of the head.

Smoothing the surface

Once the parts filled with putty and such have dried, I will smooth them out by sanding.
Since the parts are small, it's a bit difficult.

It looks roughly like this.

Day 2 Summary

That's it for Day 2.

・Filling the hollow holes in the shoulder parts
・Seam line countermeasures for torso parts and filling gaps with putty
・Post-assembly modification for the pilot
・Smoothing out sink marks and filled gaps on various parts by sanding

Up to this point, I've mostly finished the part shaping process.
