[3 days until the release date!] Here is a look at what's inside 🤗
It was about 5 or 6 years ago. As I approached the age of 50, I suddenly became strongly aware that the life ahead of me was finite.
To use a mountain climbing analogy, I had been climbing triumphantly until just recently, aiming for a summit hidden by clouds, feeling more hope than anxiety about not knowing how high the mountain was. Then, before I knew it, the mountain path had turned into a descent...
"Oh, I wonder when I passed the summit."
Along with the feeling of descending the mountain, I began to see the foot of the mountain appearing and disappearing, and I became conscious of how much distance was left.
I realized that I had reached the turning point of my life.
Before I knew it, my only son was about to enter the workforce. My role as a "mother" was reaching its final stages.
At the company where I had worked for 28 years since graduation, I had used maternity and childcare leave, which were still rare at the time, to continue working, and I felt I had done my best to balance work and family. However, I felt that I had drifted slightly off my career path, and with 10 years left until mandatory retirement at 60, I felt uneasy about not wanting to end things as they were.
Looking around, there were almost no female seniors who had worked until retirement, and there were not many role models in their 50s.
Reaching a "turning point in life," I became strongly aware of my future life, which I had not even thought about until then.
And, thinking "if I'm going to do it, the sooner the better," I decided to change jobs using an early retirement program at age 51 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Looking back now, I think this was the trigger, as if a switch had been flipped for the second half of my life, and various things I hadn't expected began to happen from here on out.
When I was in the midst of it, there were times when I felt so depressed and worried that it felt like the end of the world. And then, a dialogue began with another "me" who was trying to walk the path of my future life, wondering where I was headed.
And now that I am 55, I can truly say, "The second half of life is definitely more interesting."
Because, for one thing, I never even dreamed that I would be publishing a book like this (laughs).
Based on my own experience,
● Health, which I came to realize even more because I am single
● How to face the money and work necessary to live
● How to connect with people and society so as not to be lonely even when alone
● The fact that "time to face yourself" to notice what is important is necessary at the turning point of life
I wrote about "how to reset your life" to enjoy a more authentic life without regrets in the second half, focusing on these four axes.
