My Second Life: Traveling to Amanohashidate with My Daughter

I took the morning express train and headed to Amanohashidate today.
A month ago, my daughter suggested, "Let's go on a short overnight trip," and gifted me this stay.
In the daily life I have been slowly reclaiming since my surgery, being able to go on a trip like this was a very grateful and happy time.

The morning was cloudy.
The view from the train window was foggy and the sun was nowhere to be seen, but by the time we approached Amanohashidate Station, the sun came out, making it a warmer and calmer day for sightseeing than I had expected.

Amanohashidate Station

■ Cycling through the pine grove

The first place we headed to was Kasamatsu Park, the birthplace of the "mata-nozoki" (viewing between the legs).
We rented bicycles and rode through the pine grove.
It was so warm that I didn't even need gloves, and it felt wonderful to cut through the wind.

When we arrived at the cable car station, I thought about having a light lunch, but we couldn't get in without a reservation, so we went straight to the cable car.

At the Kasamatsu Park observation deck, although it had become a bit cloudy, the sunlight remained, even creating a backlight. The scenery was beautiful enough to make my heart feel clear and bright.

Tempura Soba

We were able to get into the restaurant here, so I ordered tempura soba.
Actually, we had talked about wanting to eat clam soba, but having lunch along with the feast of the view was satisfying enough on its own.😊

■ Climbing the stone steps to the "birthplace of mata-nozoki"

Birthplace of mata-nozoki

The clouds grew thicker during lunch, but we headed to the birthplace of mata-nozoki, which is located at a high elevation.

The stone steps seemed to go on forever.
For someone like me who hasn't had much experience climbing long flights of stairs, it was a challenge that left me breathless and my legs heavy.
While my daughter waited for me, I managed to climb to the top and did the mata-nozoki pose once more.
The view was exceptional, making all the effort worth it.

■ Returning to the station in light rain

It started to drizzle around this time.
We hurried to the cable car and headed to the station by rental bike.

There was an option to drop off the bikes one-way and take a sightseeing boat, but this time we chose the round-trip course.
By the time we returned to Amanohashidate Station in the light rain, it had started to pour.

We returned the rental bikes and took a break at a coffee shop near the pier while eating black bean soft-serve ice cream. The owner of this shop was very funny, and it was a time that made the lingering emotions of the trip feel light.

■ Moving to Amino for a night of hot springs and crab

We traveled by train from Amanohashidate Station to Amino Station.
There was a shuttle from the station to the inn, and after checking in, we took a short walk by the sea.

Despite it being a cold day at the end of the year, there were people enjoying surfing at the beach a little further away.
My daughter also surfs, so she muttered, "That looks nice, I want to ride too."

As dusk fell, the wind turned cold, so we returned to the inn and went to the hot springs.
Dinner was a full-course crab meal🦀. We enjoyed it until we were completely full.

Crab sashimi
Grilled crab (before grilling)
Crab tempura
Crab hot pot

After eating, we rested in our room for a while, and then went to the bath in our room.
A good hot spring leaves your skin feeling moist and your heart feeling relaxed.

Looking back on the day like this, more than the scenery of Amanohashidate or the sea breeze,
I think the fact that I was able to walk with my daughter was the greatest reward for me. And I cannot help but be grateful that she planned and invited me on this trip. Thank you, my formerlittle nurse!

I will rest well tonight and welcome another new day tomorrow.
Thank you for reading until the end.
The date has changed, but that's all for today.
I'm going to get some rest now. Good night.

Thank you for reading until the end.
