How to Hide YouTube Shorts (Android) | I Reduced My Screen Time!
"I only meant to watch YouTube for a little bit, but before I knew it, an hour had passed..."
Have you ever had that experience?
When you have some free time, you open your phone and open YouTube without really thinking about it.
Then, Shorts start playing automatically, and you end up watching them endlessly.
"I wasted my time again..." I used to think that to myself many times, too.
But recently, I've been able to improve this situation significantly!
That is a setting that hides Shorts when you open YouTube.
In this article, I will clearly explain how to set this up for those who, like me, find themselves mindlessly watching YouTube Shorts on their phones.
Why do we keep watching Shorts?
I don't think it's because of a "lack of willpower."
The moment you open YouTube, eye-catching Shorts are lined up.
And then, you get trapped in a loop of watching one after another.
In other words, it is designed to make you watch them.
I also couldn't stop, even though I kept telling myself I had to.
I was in a state of doing it almost unconsciously.
That is why what is important is,
👉 Not "stopping through willpower" but
👉 "making it so you can't see them in the first place"
This was it.
How to hide YouTube Shorts (Android)
This is the main part.
The steps are very simple, so please give it a try.
Once you set it up, you will feel a significant effect.
Step 1: Open the YouTube app
First, open the YouTube app as you normally would.
Tap the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen to open your profile page.
Tap the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen to enter the settings page.
* The position of the icon or gear icon may vary depending on your device model.
Step 2: Tap "Time watched"
👉 From the settings page, tap "Time watched".

Step 3: Change the "Limit daily time watched" setting
👉 Tap "Limit daily time watched".

Step 4: Change the "Shorts feed limit"
👉 Tap the "0" for the Shorts feed limit.

Step 5: Done
Now, when you open YouTube,
Shorts videos will no longer be displayed automatically.
The results after trying it out
Since setting this up, my screen time has changed significantly.
Previously, Shorts videos would appear the moment I opened YouTube, so
I would just keep watching them without thinking.
But now, I have shifted to a state where I "focus only on watching the videos I want to see."
As a result,
The time I spent mindlessly scrolling decreased.
The feeling of having wasted time decreased.
I became able to use my time for other things.
It was a pretty big change.
Points to note (to be honest)
Of course, this doesn't mean your screen time will disappear completely.
・You can still watch regular YouTube videos
・There are temptations from other apps as well
However, even so,
“just getting rid of the state of being stuck in an infinite loopmakes a huge difference.
It has become much easier mentally.
Summary
What I wanted to convey this time is,“change through systems, not willpower”.
People are heavily influenced by their environment.
That is why it is important to create a state with fewer temptations from the start.
The same goes for YouTube Shorts.
It was overwhelmingly easier to “make them invisible” than to “try hard not to watch them.”
If you,
“I wasted my time again...”
“I want to stop mindlessly scrolling”
If you feel that way, please try this setting at least once.
This setting is very simple and can be done in less than 5 minutes.
Those 5 minutes might just change how you spend your time from now on.😊✨
