What is It like living in Japan?
Hi, my name is Gregory, I’m 35 years old, and I currently work as a call center agent here in the Philippines. I’m still single, and in the middle of life’s busyness, I find comfort in the simple things like enjoying an apple, my favorite fruit.
This will be my first entry here in Note, and I hope to find companions who share my love of reading books and appreciate life in general.
One of the biggest influences on how I view life has been my love for reading, especially the works of my favorite author, Haruki Murakami. I’ve read Kafka on the Shore, 1Q84, Hard-Boiled Wonderland, Sputnik Sweetheart, Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage, and even The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (though I might be mixing it up with something like “Woman Willow”). His writing is so surreal yet deeply human, which resonates with me in ways I can’t fully put into words.
Murakami’s stories often feel like wandering through a dream: strange, lonely, yet oddly familiar. In some ways, I see pieces of myself in those journeys: navigating work, solitude, and the quiet search for meaning in everyday life.
With that, I’d really like to ask, what is it like living in Japan, the very place where Murakami’s imagination is rooted?

私の人生観に大きな影響を与えてきたのは、読書、特に大好きな作家である村上春樹の作品です。『海辺のカフカ』、『1Q84』、『世界の終りとハードボイルド・ワンダーランド』、『スプートニクの恋人』、『色彩を持たない多崎つくると、彼の巡礼の年』、そして『ねじまき鳥クロニクル』（もしかすると「ウィロウ・ウーマン」と混同しているかもしれませんが）を読みました。彼の作品は、とてもシュールでありながら人間的で、言葉では言い尽くせないほど私の心に響きます。
村上春樹の物語は、夢の中をさまよっているような感覚を与えてくれます。奇妙で、孤独でありながら、どこか懐かしい。その旅の中に、自分自身の断片を見つけることがあるのです。仕事や孤独、そして日常の中で意味を探し求める静かな旅と重なるからかもしれません。
