Monodamashii 002 'Gratitude for the Rolling Trackball (゚∀゚)ノシ◯'
I feel like I've been familiar with trackballs for a long time.
Ever since I encountered arcade trackballs like Missile Command in my childhood, and then went through the X68000 trackball mouse, I realized I had become a full-fledged trackballer.

(I'll ignore the flaws)
Didn't I mention the Pinpoint Barrier Operator of the SDF-1 Macross as my dream job back then? (゚∀゚)ノシ◯ Roll roll
If I continue like this, I'll end up talking endlessly about my love for the trackball device, but this time I'd like to touch upon the practical benefits that helped reduce the strain on my body.
Was it back in my development days? I was living a life of facing the monitor for XX hours a day during a death march, and like those around me, my body was falling apart. In particular, the pain in my right shoulder, my dominant arm, was severe, and I was pushed to the point where I thought it might be impossible to continue. Am I a pitcher?! (;´Д`)
That was when I re-focused on the trackball. Prioritizing a comfortable posture and using a control system that only requires fingertip movement takes some getting used to, but as expected, it put less strain on my shoulders and arms and worked better than I had hoped... truly a savior!

which could be called a fateful encounter
However, since my main development machine was a Sun Ultra and not the kind of machine you'd find at a local electronics store, simply connecting a commercially available trackball didn't solve everything... In the end, I was limited to using it at home or only on my Windows PC. Even so, the burden was significantly reduced, and I was able to tip the scales of life from 'dying in battle' to 'barely surviving by the skin of my teeth'.
At the time, I was facing the computer in such a desperate state that the usability of a single device could determine whether I could continue or not (;´Д`)
Nowadays, despite a brief 'winter period,' various companies have a wide range of products, and there are many affordable and highly usable units similar to the Microsoft Trackball Explorer of that time. While I am surprised by the number of choices, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea for people like me to try out a trackball from the perspective of a health tool for preventing tendonitis.
So, while this has mainly been about physical issues, I would like to talk more about the Microsoft Trackball Explorer and other trackballs I touched on briefly today at a later date.In short, I haven't finished writing it (゚д゚)
