Thoughts on the DTM Festival in Asagaya at Night
My reference number was A-3.
I was completely in the front row.
I, a 50-year-old, was mixed in among the young people.
Honestly, I felt a little out of place.
But there were quite a few people from my generation too, which made me feel a bit relieved.
Even so, it was a day that was nothing but a win for me.
To be able to watch Love Summer-chan and Kimishima-kun's
DTM workflow so closely might never happen again.
The venue was Asagaya LOFT A.
Unlike a live music club, it was a slightly more relaxed space.
But the moment the two of them sat on stage, the atmosphere truly became a 'music production site'.
Love Summer-chan was as cute and gentle as ever, yet she had a core.
Even though she was talking about DTM, she spoke with a sense of distance that felt like an extension of everyday life.
I only ever see Love Summer-chan at this distance during fan club events, but today she had a bit of a professional look on her face.
Kimishima-kun can do many things, but
he was definitely a guitar person after all.
Even when he was doing DTM work,
his way of perceiving sound was completely that of a 'player',
and rather than his technique, the way he approached sound was cool.
As for me,
I'm someone who only recently learned the joy of arranging clips in Ableton.
A beginner who plays a 909 on one track,
thinking 'Is this okay?' while saving the file.
But today, I felt a little relieved.
Everyone must have started,
from somewhere like where I am now.
Talent, youth, sense.
There's no end to it if you start thinking about all those things.
In the end, sitting at the desk,
arranging sounds,
deleting them,
and arranging them again.
The people who keep repeating that are the ones sitting on the stage.
……It's kind of an amazing event, isn't it?
Also, the two of them get along well and have a very nice sense of distance,
which was very heartwarming for an old guy like me (laughs).
Also, Kimishima-kun's guitar solo was unfair! I almost cried! 😭
I've heard Love Summer-chan's singing voice several times, but it really is wonderful.
Oh right, there was a flea market too, and I bought Love Summer-chan's shield (Providence),
while the Nichigei student who happened to be watching next to me bought Kimishima-kun's BOSS pedal.
On the way home, the air in Asagaya was cold,
but somehow, my chest felt warm.
I am still a beginner.
But maybe that's okay.
For now, at least.
Tonight was,
a night that made me feel that way.
