The question of 'Why do we study?' that I pondered on the Expo stage

✨Introduction

In an era where AI provides the answers,
what is the meaning of humans 'learning'?

The time I spent thinking together with students on the Expo stage
shook my 'view on education' once again.

The theme discussed on the Expo stage

The Osaka-Kansai Expo to be held in 2025.
As part of the 'TEAM EXPO 2025' program,
I participated as a panelist in the next-generation co-creation leader development project 'Co-Lab Gears'.

The session on stage was planned by university students from across the country.
The theme was 'Learning and Play'.

Hosted by the Edgeson Management Association

The following five people took the stage.

  • Professor, English Education Major, Department of Education, Faculty of Education, Yamato University: Dr. Takahide Nakamura

  • Specially Appointed Associate Professor, Otemon Gakuin University / Director, Robot and Programming Education Research Promotion Office, Elementary and Junior High School Division: Mr. Tetsuya Fukuda

  • Chief Teacher (Head Teacher), Osaka Prefectural Tennoji High School: Mr. Shigeki Kawabe

  • Former Elementary School Teacher: Mr. Morihiko Kori

  • And myself, Naoko Kosaka (Former elementary school teacher / Teacher work-style support)

It was a very educational time for me to be able to participate among such an impressive group of members.

It was a space where students took the lead in exploring the 'essence of learning' from multiple perspectives.

Now that AI is developing rapidly and 'answers' can be easily obtained by searching.
Why do people still learn?

Self-introduction

The question of 'Why do I have to study?'

The details of my presentation on stage will be introduced below🎥

The 'common keyword' seen through the presentation

What I saw throughout the entire presentation was the keyword 'fun,' which was common to every teacher's talk.

'Learning is fun,' 'Thinking is fun,' 'Taking on challenges is fun'—.

What I personally wanted to convey was the importance of the 'power to think' that supports that 'fun.'
For us living in the AI era, I believe that rather than knowing the answer, 'continuing to think' is the driving force of learning.

Even as adults, learning is found more in the 'field' than in the 'classroom'

At the end of my presentation, I talked about 'adult learning.'
This is what I conveyed.

Learning isn't something that is completed just at a desk.
True learning is found in trying various things and putting them into practice.

When we become adults, we have jobs and families, so we tend to choose 'stability' over 'challenge.'
But, trying something, not having it go well, and then thinking, 'Well, what should I do next?'—
I believe that process is exactly what 'learning' is.

That is why I try not to be afraid of failure.
Failure is not a 'mistake,' but 'data for moving forward.'
There are realizations that can only be obtained by those who take a step forward.

It is the same for me now.
After becoming independent from teaching, starting a business, and repeating courses and training,
there have been more times when things didn't go as planned than when they did.
But every time that happened, I kept thinking about 'how can I convey this better'
and 'what is needed.'
That is exactlya series of learning.

Conclusion — 'The power to challenge' and 'the power to keep thinking'

Learning is not 'searching for the correct answer,' but
'setting your own questions and taking action.'
With every failure, your own core grows.

After stepping off the stage, I thought as I watched the students.
Even in the age of AI, what is necessary for people to continue learning as humans is
the 'power to challenge' and the 'power to keep thinking.'

Also, seeing the students who planned and operated this through trial and error many times,
and seeing them repeatedly engage in dialogue with professors and teachers,
was truly reliable, and I saw hope for the future.

The students who planned and operated this

I would like to continue taking on the challenge of connecting 'education' and 'work styles'
and provide something of value.

Holding 'work style training' at schools, unions, etc.
There are results showing that just by changing awareness, leaving times have become earlier.
I customize the content according to the organizer's wishes, such as how to build good human relationships and efficient work styles.
