A fisheye lens is a lens with an even more extremely wide field of view than an ultra-wide-angle lens.

In English, it is called a "Fisheye Lens." It means the eye of a fish. It is said that this is close to the field of view of a fish looking up from underwater, but I have never asked an actual fish, so I do not know if that is true.

🎨 What is a fisheye lens?

It is a lens with a field of view close to 180 degrees.

While the edges of the frame appear as straight lines with a normal lens, they distort into arcs with a fisheye lens. It feels as if you are looking at the entire scene through a round glass marble.

In terms of prompts, writing `fisheye lens` or `extreme wide angle` will result in an image with this texture.

🎨 The distortion becomes extreme

The center of the screen looks normal, but as you get closer to the edges, it bulges and curves roundly. The horizon and walls, which should be straight, clearly draw an arc.

When I first tried it, I was a little surprised at how much it distorted. It wasn't just "the edges look a bit weird," but had a strength that suggested it was "clearly drawn according to the rules of a different world."

🎨 Things I tried

I tried drawing a "dog in a room" using a fisheye lens.

The result was an image where the walls and ceiling of the room looked round and bulging.

The dog is in the center of the screen, and that part looks normal. But the surrounding walls and furniture are distorted as if they are inside a round sphere. At first, I thought, "Maybe this is too much," but after looking at it for a while, it felt addictive.

I never thought a room could feel this spacious.

If you want to adjust the strength of the distortion, using `subtle fisheye effect` (for a milder look) or `extreme fisheye distortion` (for a stronger look) will create variations.

If you want to place the subject in the center, adding `subject centered` makes it easier for the subject to be in a position less affected by the distortion.

🎨 Only the center is protected

What I noticed while using a fisheye lens is that only the center of the screen is protected from distortion.

The further you go toward the edges, the stronger the distortion becomes, and the closer to the center, the more normal it looks. In other words, what you place in the center determines whether it is protected from distortion. Since I placed the dog in the center this time, only the dog kept its proper shape.

The dog looked a bit surprised by how distorted the room was. I didn't actually specify that expression, though.
