[AI Illustration Philosophy] What happens when you over-adjust
🎨 When you've learned what you can do
It was around the time I learned about negative prompts, figured out how to handle randomness, and realized that "what you don't write" is also part of the design.
I felt like I had more cards in my hand, so to speak.
I could specify the direction of light. I could choose textures. I could control the placement of elements to some extent. I became able to write while being conscious of foreground, midground, and background layers. I could also filter out unnecessary things with negatives.
Once you reach this point, you naturally want to use everything.
🎨 The prompt where I wrote everything
One time, I tried writing a prompt that packed in all the knowledge I had.
The angle of light, the types of textures, the positional relationships of elements, color temperature, depth of field, particle density. I carefully lined up exclusion items in the negative prompt and included solid information for each layer.
When I finished writing it, I felt a sense of accomplishment. I thought, "I've really come a long way to be able to write this much."
The generated image wasn't broken. The specified elements were generally reflected, and the composition hadn't collapsed. I think it was something that could be called a technical success.
However, for some reason, it felt suffocating to look at.
🎨 Correct, but stiff
Even though everything was lined up exactly as specified, the image looked cramped.
At first, I didn't know what was bothering me, so I stared at it for a while.
I think it was probably because there was almost no room left for the AI to make its own judgments. Since everything was placed according to instructions, there was no sense of comfort that you could just drift into.
Even though I had realized last time that "not writing is a form of entrusting."
As my knowledge increased, and as the number of items I could write increased, I was trying to decide everything myself again.
🎨 You become most excessive right after you learn something
This probably isn't limited to just control.
When you learn something new, you want to use it for a while. Because the ability to use it is fun in itself, you end up trying to use it in every situation.
Prompts are the same; being able to write them and knowing whether you should write them are two different things.
What I realized after I became able to write everything wasn't that I didn't have to write everything. It was that being able to choose to 'only write this much this time' while in a state where I could write everything is probably the final step in control.
🎨 Only those who possess can let go
'Not writing' when you don't have the means and 'not writing' when you do have them might be the same action, but the substance is different.
One is just lacking the means, while the other is likely a judgment.
I haven't clearly distinguished between those yet, though.
I still can't choose well every time, though.
Afterword
Thank you for reading this far.
Since I've learned so many things, I end up wanting to use them all, but please let me organize my thoughts a little more lol
It would be encouraging if you could 'follow' or 'like' this! I look forward to your continued support!
