Short-Short Story: 'From the Night Market' Shirokuma Literature Club
Angry shouts and screams echoed from the night market stall.
Apparently, the owner of the teppan yakisoba stall had slapped his wife's cheek.
"Why did you get Maruchan? I told you to buy Nissin."
"They were on sale, so the Nissin was sold out. It couldn't be helped, could it?"
"There's no ginger (shoga) either? What are you supposed to do without the secret ingredient?"
The people gathered for the summer festival turned cold, unimpressed gazes toward the couple's argument.
The crowd standing at a distance whispered to each other.
"Hey, hey. I heard the yakisoba here is usually Nissin Yakisoba."
"But it looks like it's going to be Maruchan Yakisoba tonight."
"I'd like to taste the crunchy texture of mixed-in shredded ginger, though."
"But you don't have to go out of your way to eat it at a night market; you could just make that at home."
The customers drifted away, and the stall was practically out of business.
Just then, a child ran in.
"Mister! Give me some yakisoba. Is it Nissin tonight too?"
"Hey, kid. Don't spill the beans. It can't be helped (shouganee naa)."
"Huh? There's no ginger (shouga) in it? Then I don't want it."
"Hey, wait a minute!" the couple stumbled.
What is this skit? Scattered applause broke out. I heard that the couple and their child are aiming to enter the King of Conte comedy competition. Apparently, that was their signature routine.
Of course, the Nissin vs. Maruchan thing and the ginger were all lies.
"Because if we did that, the cost would go up, you see."
But apparently, you are allowed to bring your own. Even the ginger.
...Somehow, it can't be helped (shouganee naa).
Huh? Even this punchline?
(The End)

I can't lol
