These days, I find myself thinking, 'Oh, I want to go to the forest!'
Now, the May Forest Creation Support Project is the 'Miyagawa Forestry Cooperative in Odai Town, Mie Prefecture'!

■ Comments from the people of Odai Town, Mie Prefecture
Odai Town is located in the southwestern part of the central-southern region of Mie Prefecture. The clear stream 'Miyagawa' that flows through the center of the town has its upper reaches included in the Yoshino-Kumano National Park and the Oku-Ise Miyagawa Gorge Prefectural Park. 'Osugidani,' located at the headwaters, is said to be one of the unexplored regions of the Kinki area and one of Japan's three great gorges. Due to the natural environment formed by such diverse locations, many types of trees grow in Odai Town. In 2016, the entire area of Odai Town was registered as an extension of the Odaigahara, Omine, and Osugidani UNESCO Eco Park.
In order to solve the issues facing forestry, the Miyagawa Forestry Cooperative is working on forest creation centered on broad-leaved trees, utilizing the diverse natural environment of the region.
Its features include the production of 'locally adapted seedlings' grown from seeds collected in the region, the adoption of 'patch defense' small-scale deer-proof fences to prevent damage to seedlings by sika deer, forest creation using 'natural planting technology' that utilizes the separation of tree habitats and natural mechanisms, and the manufacturing and sales of aroma products, smoked products, and woodwork using broad-leaved trees, aiming for a forestry industry with diverse options.

■ Use of offset proceeds
The proceeds will be used for forest creation through 'locally adapted seedlings,' 'patch defense,' and 'natural planting technology.' We believe that if we grow seedlings in the region, carry out forest creation, and the harvested trees come to be used in various fields, it will become a new circular forestry industry and we will be able to pass on value to the future.
