Music Inn Fujieda
Explanation of Crowdfunding Rewards

Recently, I recorded the "Acoustic performance in the earthen storehouse (dozo)" which is one of the rewards for the crowdfunding campaign to build "Music Inn Fujieda."

I recorded it on the second floor of the storehouse. On the thick ceiling beams, there is an inscription that reads "Built on January 13, 1906." Since it is 1906, that makes it 118 years of history. The studio is scheduled to open in 2026. Thinking about it that way, it will have 120 years of history.

I did a one-take recording of a literal acoustic performance, playing the acoustic guitar while singing. It was about three takes in total. It turned out to be a performance that I could call a raw "Naked" take. I really like the atmosphere, which is unique to a freshly written new song.

Originally, this was only going to be this recording, but this time I think I will re-record the demo at my own studio, CBS, and try adding harmonies and such. I want to make this a valuable reward where you can see how a demo track gets fleshed out. After all, you supported me with 5,000 yen.

The storehouse is scheduled to be renovated into a recording studio. First, we will repair internal corrosion and the like, and then we will lift the storehouse by about 1 meter to reinforce the foundation so it can support a studio that is heavier than a normal house. Moving a building like this (in this case, lifting it) is called "hikiya" (house moving). It is also construction to protect the exterior of the storehouse.
We will remove the floor of the second floor of the storehouse. By doing so, it will create an open ceiling from the first floor, achieving a ceiling height of over 4 meters. For percussion instruments, not only the sound of the strike but also the reverberation of that sound echoing in the space is recorded as part of the instrument's sound, so the acoustics of the studio are important. If the ceiling is high, you can record rich reverberation.
This is the first floor of the storehouse. We plan to remove the ceiling (which is also the second-floor floor) and raise the beams by about 1 meter. By doing so, it will become an open, airy space. We will leave the ceiling (floor) in the foreground to create a loft-style control room (the room where the mixer and other equipment are placed).

At the same time as the acoustic recording, I recorded the IR (impulse response) data of the storehouse. This allows the acoustic space to be reproduced within a DAW. Simply put, it becomes possible to reproduce the "reverberation as if an instrument were played in this storehouse" inside a PC. Since the interior of the storehouse will be soundproofed for studio use, the current reverberation will inevitably be lost. This is a mechanism to save it and reproduce the sound of the storehouse before the renovation at any time. I plan to make the data used for the plugin available for anyone to use in some way (including sales or as a reward). Details to follow later.

Recording IR data with an 8-channel capsule Ambisonics microphone. In this photo, I am recording data for the first floor. Of course, the second floor has already been recorded.
The second floor definitely has a more spacious reverberation. The first floor has a more subdued sound.
There is also a way to record IR using a small speaker like this and an iPhone. The photo is of the tea room next to the storehouse. It's tea room reverb.
You will be able to reproduce sounds like "what it would be like if you played a guitar at full volume in a tea room."
This is the Fujieda reverb imported into a Pro Tools plugin. You can use the Japanese-style room, and the 1st and 2nd floors of the storehouse respectively. I have also recorded reverberation data that changes depending on the microphone distance, such as 3m and 5m.
※Not included in this reward.

The reward includes handwritten lyrics (PDF) and simple chord charts. I haven't used very difficult chords, so I think you'll be able to sing it after practicing the guitar a little. Although, my melody is still a bit fluid, and I will be solidifying it while singing it more and performing it with a band... I would be happy if you could enjoy it with the image of observing the process of creating a song.

Since it's a special occasion, I'll share the opening lyrics. The full text will be a treat for those who supported me. Thank you for your support.

Once, we
Stared intently at our empty palms
Even then, someday
We competed to swear that we would become someone

Excerpt from the lyrics of the new song
I sat on a ceramic chair in the backyard of the storehouse and performed with this miking setup.
The guitar is a Gibson LG-3. It's a small guitar.
